James Posey could be a Net by Monday...or he could be a member of another Eastern Conference contender, the Celts or Cavs. The 6'-8" defensive stalwart expects to makes a decision this weekend, his agent told Fred Kerber of the Post on Friday. "While it's hard to get into specifics, yes, the Nets are in the running. I would think there will be a decision soon." The Nets are at a disadvantage, having only the $1.8 million LLE to spend. His old team, the Heat, don't seem interested.

Nets still in chase for Posey - Fred Kerber - New York Post
Posey likely leaving for better offer - Michael Cunningham - Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel

I never thought any of this Posey stuff was too realistic but after seeing this I think he would be great for us.

Posey is a great player, and this would be a huge signing for us. Not only because it gives us a great 2/3 guy off the bench in addition to boki, but it allows us to trade RJ for that mythical big and keep the loss we suffer at the SF to a minimum

Brian Hill, Magloire, Hite, Williams and Posey for House, Adams and Moore... Not a bad offseason at all IMO.

Unless we trade RJ (and at this point, for who?) isn't Posey just going to take minutes away from Boki, who was our most effective bench player last year?

I like Posey a lot - he'd play great in a Lawrence Frank system. It just happens to be a zero-sum game with SF minutes, unless we're suddenly going to start playing small all the time.

If we can sign Posey I don't see why we wouldn't. Boki and Posey are versitile players and either of them can play the 2-4 and he gives us more options with RJ. Any time you can get a defender/3 pt shooter/slasher I think it's worth it, even if he is going to take minutes away from someone else.

Nachbar is likely to be traded whether Posey is signed or not.

The Nets will not end the season over the tax limit.

This will be a big addition since it will give Frank a lot of options. Also would be great insurance if RJ or VC are hit with injury. And as stated above, this signing would give us the chance to trade RJ or even Nachbar before he hits the big contract. I dont like the fact that Wright's time will be limited but Posey is a much better shooter and would guard the stronger wings of the league(Wright is well suited for that, but he would be best used to guard the quick guards ala Rip and basically every quick guard out there). I'll look over it sooner or later.

I don't see him coming here, I could see him going to the Cavs or Celts.

How serious are his conditioning concerns. He looked a little chubby last season.

i don't think he's a "slasher". didn't a miami fan say he used to sit on the perimeter on offense and jack up 3's?

not that it's a bad thing, cause he can actually make a good % of em

I wouldn't mind him taking Wright's minutes at all. Posey can shoot and defend, and would pair nicely with Nachbar coming off the bench

Sorry Nets. Even next years all the free agents will want to come to Boston. Who wouldn't want a ring?

Yes because all the top free agents are willing to take dramatic paycuts to play for Boston.
