La Russa and Stewart call Gibson in for a post season conference.

La Russa: Hey Kirk remember that bomb you hit against our old team in '88

Gibson: Sat isn't that ancient history?

    Stewart: Kirk you're fired.

...Gibson seems a bit scatterbrained to me...not sure he's cut out to be a skipper.

That bomb he hit in the '88 series was a dusey though, ditto the one of Gossage in '84. The man seems to be a bit possessed.

Per MLB it just happened, Gibson and Trammell were let go.

I'm not sure if Gibson was ready to be a Big Lg. Skipper. No prob with being a slugger himself, the role of a Mgr. he seemed iffy at best all year, IMHO...

However-the way LaRussa and Stewart went about it smacks of Matt Millen's Fiasco in Detroit...

If the D'Bacls Front Man, (LaRussa) were anyone else, I doubt Stewart gets his promo too, what for firing Gibson...?

I tell ya' it never surprised me, when the Bums traded Stewart away, Welch too, so like a Lasorda/Perranoski Team to either trade the best Pitchers, who got little to NO Run support, ie, Welch, Stewart and Pedro Martinez...or- over use guys like Fernando or Hershiser....Lasorda never throttled back on those and a few others, til' they drum blow their arms out....

You knew when La Russa arrived that axes would be sharpened and used, especially after Towers was "reassigned".
