Reports are saying that there is a reasonable chance Houston will move Kyle Lowry for the #5 or #8 pick (link below). Supposedly their target is Drummond, but they may also try and parlay their new pick & more to Orlando for Dwight Howard. This would impact Portland in a number of ways: - If Houston gets Drummond, we obviously don't. It's hard to tell that he's who we want, and the feelings on Drummond around here are mixed. But there's a reasonable chance they're stealing "our guy". Of course, this means that potentially Barnes or MKG would slip to us, which could be a good thing. - Lowry would no longer be available, and the odds of Houston re-signing Dragic would greatly increase, IMO. Who the heck are we going to get in free agency? And who is going to be our starting PG? A rookie? - Lastly, if the reports are true that they could potentially get Howard for a couple of lottery picks....one could argue we have a chance too. LOL I don't think that's the course of action for us, but I'm sure a few on this board would be willing to roll the dice. Lots to think about! Here's the link on the rumored deal: http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/46492/rockets-set-sights-on-moving-up-in-draft
Sports Biz Radio @SBRadio Houston Rockets reportedly offering Kyle Lowry & #16 pick to TOR for #8 pick in NBA Draft. If I'm Portland, I do that deal for the #6 pick. Being discussed in the draft thread
It wasn't being discussed when I started typing it. I didn't know if it belonged in the draft thread, the trade thread, or warranted a thread of its own. In fact, I was going to post this last night but figured I would put it in the wrong place and get in trouble. Then I wake up and see no one is still talking about it, so I try and contribute....but I still got it wrong. This place can be confusing!!
Agreed. Rather have things in 2 places and a merge from a mod if needed than it not get posted or talked about.
Of course Berger woud do that deal, he is a lousy judge of talent\deals..... Let TOR have Lowry... I agree, this likely means forget about Dragic...risky on HOU part though given that he is a UFA....But POR could go after a guy like George Hill, whom I like a lot... The best news is that if it is Drummond whom they are targeting...that means one of the big 4 (Beal, Robinson, Barnes or MKG) is likely dropping to #6....Great news for POR, I would gladly take any of those guys...and you don't have to pay to trade up for them either.... I would not go after Howard....
What intrigues me about the deal is not only do you get a nice pG on a good contract, but also still have #11, #14 and #16. Probably could move back up into the mid lottery if someone you desire (Rivers?) is there. Then still have one additional pick for a guy like Harkless, Jones, White or whatever. Might be a case of maximizing our assets?
LOL why? Small market Rains the entire season High state taxes Not a great "young black man" city What's not to love?
Rivers likely will not be there, he appears to be going top 10.... I just don't like Lowry, I think he is a little bit of a head case.... Also, I don't think this fits Olshey's criteria of young all star caliber player as a return for a pick.... Should it not be concerning that HOU is eager to deal him w\o having Dragic locked up? Or that he blasted his coach and mgmt? Or that he couldn't win his job back when he returned from illness\injury? I don't think POR should be dealing the #6 pick for Lowry...there will be a better player to chosse there IMO...
I believe they are more eager to deal him because if his relationship with McHale? To the best of my limited knowledge, he has not had issues with coaches in the past?
Or they could add that 14th to the 11th and trade for Noah. By the way, where is that #16 coming from?
2 things. Portland wouldn't get both 14 & 16, as well as Lowry. And two, Lowry isn't that great. Guys like Lowry will never make us contenders, and I would hope that's at least our goal. Let's give ourselves a chance. Only trade the picks if it's part of a deal that lands us a very good player. I'm impatient too, but the bottom line is that when a team loses Brandon Roy and Greg Oden like we have, there's not going to be a quick fix. I don't care what management is saying about retooling vs. rebuilding in order to sell tickets. This off-season is much too important to waste on guys like Lowry.
Lowery would easily be PDX's 2nd best player. He's a tough/solid Point who is also a premier outside threat...boggles the mind that some are acting like he's in the vacinity of average STOMP
