Potential Lineup

Jack Johnson sucks moose balls. So I see Hajek if he can do anything replacing him. If not, he's done here. Di Giuseppe sucks. Barron will get it together. You can already tell Quinn is pulling for him.

Maybe if they're in the playoff hunt in the spring they'll trade for a 3rd pair upgrade of some kind if needed to get them through the year.

If Miller is ready, I am less concerned about the 3rd pair LD. I would hope between Smith, Johnson, and Hajek one can step up. If not and we are in it, yes look to add via trade as mentioned, but if our biggest D concern is 3rd pair LD, we are in a good spot.

As for Barron, I agree he should eventually take a place on the 4th line with Lemieux and Howden. I really like the 4th line options we have this year. First time in a while we can say that, and say our 4th line can take a regular shift, and say our top 9 is filled with true top 9 guys, not 4th line guys playing in the top 9. I like it.

This is a good team, that may be one year away from truly contending and having the flexibility to complete the team with the needed additions, but either way this year should be a lot of fun. Defending and winning faceoffs will determine our fate.

Knowing the playoffs will be in a bubble again, most likely, is kind of a drag, but next year should get back to normal. For us it's sort of a house money kind of year. Make the playoffs, cool, if not they get another crack at some lotto luck and at worst add another top 10 type prospect. Then next year guys like Lundkvist and Kravtsov maybe crack the lineup and our current guys have another year under their belt.

For next year you also have to add we save 9 mill on dead cap space in buyout reductions, and another 4.350 mill comes off the cap with the expiration of Smith's contract - 13.3 mill in total. That is why to me next season has always been the season Gorton has been pointing towards to finish off this team, and add the final pieces we need.

This year is house money in the sense that if we play well, either just make or just miss the playoffs, and the kids get a year of growth out of it, we accomplished what we needed to IMO.

DeAngelo is still a mental case. I think the organization loves Lundkvist and his skill along with being very mature. I hope DeAngelo has a monster year. If he does I would expect him to be a part of a package for a big center. Howden better win 50+ % of his draws this season or he's outta here. Chytil better at worst be a 45% draw guy this year. Like Hayes he sucks at draws early on. Hayes got a lot better. I don't think Dubois will go anywhere this year. However, if DeAngelo and Chytil have real good years I can see the Rangers using those 2 guys as part of a package to get that guy.

In order for CBJ to trade Dubois to us, we'd need to have the best package clearly otherwise no shot they trade him within the division. I am thinking they would be asking for a guy like Kakko or Miller to be in the deal. That's a shame though, because he is a perfect fit for us and would be an amazing final piece.

If Huska or Wall progress into backups maybe they even move Georgiev next year, if he has a good season.
For Dubois I'd offer Chytil/Robertson/1st as a base and see if it goes anywhere but yeah it will tough to get Columbus to send him here.

I don't see Chytil and Robertson even being close for Dubois. They would spit Gorton's face. I think they would ask for Kakko for sure. If they trade Dubois they would be in full rebuild mode. Honestly, I think the owner and GM will talk with Dubois and much like what happened here, Torts will be kicked out because he simply won't develop offensive players any longer.

As I wrote, they would ask for Miller or Kakko for sure I believe. And even then unless our offer is clearly the best, I don't see them dealing within their own division.

I'm really excited to see Miller play. He might struggle for 25 games but we haven't had a d guy with his size and skill since a young Staal. People forgot just how good Staal was when he was younger. He and Girardi plus Hank routinely shut down every first line. Sad part was Sauer was going to be better than both of those guys IMO.

Agreed on Miller. I am pumped to see him play. If he is up to the challenge, this team just got a whole lot better. Top two pairs of Miller/Trouba AND Lindgren/Fox with DeAngelo on the 3rd pair, combined with our talent upfront makes this a very dangerous team. Takes a big weakness, LD to pair with Trouba, and hopefully makes it a strength. That is maybe our biggest weakness along with # 2 C.

I'll make the call right now, the Pens will not make the playoffs this season. The top 4 in each division make it, no wildcards this season, and I do not see the Pens being one of them. I don't like their team at all. Time to rebuild, which they won't do with Malkin and Crosby still in town (and Letang as well).

Time will tell but the division is tougher now with Boston present. That's not exactly going out on a limb with Was, Phi, Bos, NYI in the same division.

Dubios wants out and wants a big stage. That says NY. The Rangers have what it takes to get him. Maybe it's possible to not give up Kakko. Perhaps Chytil, Lundkvist and Kravtsov can do it. It's a lot to give up but he's worth it IMO.

Yes, the division is tougher with Boston in for this year. You could argue there is one spot open for another team after Boston, Wash, and Philly. As for the Pens, let me say it this way, I think they will be a below average team. Both the NYI and NYR finish ahead of them. I think us and the Isles battle for 4th. Pens 6th or lower with Buff and NJ.

I'd stick with your first post. They have to ask for Kakko or Miller I think. And even in your second offer they'd want at least one 1st round pick. Unless the market is real soft, another team not in their division will offer them a good package and they'll take that.

He's a really good player but if it took Krav/Chytil/Lundkvist i think i'd pass. I could see LA making a play for him with that farm system. Then again the Kings are not as far along in their rebuild as us so they may not.

Very few teams have the farm or the cap space to get him. Lundkvist projects easily as a top 4 d guy. Maybe top pairing. Kravtsov is reported to be a top 6 guy. Chytil certainly has the chance to be a top 6 guy. That's a lot to give up. Agree they might have to throw in a first also. As far as Miller goes. He was not the coveted or praised by a lot people around the league after last year. So, I hardly think he is a guy teams will demand. Lundkvist has actually accomplished a lot more than he has as he was playing against men and breaking records. Torts is so clueless as he wishes he had more info as to why Dubois asked for a trade. Well John, it's because your a dick who ruins the offense of offensive players which hurts their ability to get big contracts. Your team also has a terrible farm and is clearly going nowhere for the next 10 years. That's why.

If they said keep Lundkvist, we want Miller instead - would you do that?

I would have to. Zibanejad is 27. Let's face it. He's had a lot of concussions. It's a concern and Dubois is built for the playoffs. If they gave up Miller, I would then trade DeAngelo for a physical, sure thing, stay at home, left d man who was young. The Rangers season would be completely screwed if they lost Zibanejad. They can always replace a guy like Miller. Dubois here would be a legit, number 1 NHL center. You have to make that deal happen if you can. Plus, the Rangers are very good drafting defenseman. Much better than they are with centers and wings. I expect JD and Gorton to go after Dubois big time. You could also move Schneider to the left side. With his game, he would stand a good chance of pulling that off.

I wouldn't be surprised if putting Miller on the team now and Lafreniere with Chytil would be a showcase to the Jackets. I expect to hear that Columbus is scouting the Rangers. I wonder if scouts are allowed to attend games.

Fair points. To me I'd feel we would be the clear favorites to get Dubois if he wasn't in our division, we have tons of assets to deal. What makes me pause is will CBJ really trade him in division unless there were no other top packages. We'll see.

I believe Columbus will make the best deal for their future. The Kings farm system is a bit overrated to me. That and it's not a case like the Rangers who already have a loaded NHL club with young talent and still have a loaded farm. They don't have enough room for some talented prospects. The Kings NHL rosters sucks balls. They need every single prospect they have. Getting rid of three of them for Dubois makes no sense. I also can't see Dubois having any interest going there. That team is going to suck for about 3 to 5 years. I would be wary of the Flyers. They have a lot of forwards and prospects to offer. I could see them offering Patrick, Frost and York or something along those lines.
