This guy had a pretty good season but what does this Fisher signing mean? Dfish is basically making more than Claxton right now. Does that mean Dfish will start? I hope not. We've already boned Claxton more than once with the whole NVE starting over him this year. But why pay your backup more than your starter? The thing is I don't think Dfish is going to play a backup role. So I think Dampier, Claxton and NVE could possibly be moved altogether for for a rookie point guard, a rookie center, and some bad contracts. Does this smell like Dallas?
One of the things I love about Claxton is that he is a team player. We didn't hear him whinning when the Warriors brought Nick Van Exel to start over him. He played his ass off and ended up with the starting role, even though it was by default. Although I would love to see Claxton as "the man" at the PG position, he is a heck of a pg to have coming off the bench. He would bring a Bobby Jackson type energy to the court everytime he is subbed in. He elevates the rest of his team with his work ethic. Could you imagine Claxton, Pietrus, Robinson and even Biedrins coming off the bench? That is not a bad bench. I have a bad feeling that we will lose Claxton via a trade. I just hope Mullin works out a deal that fullfills our selfish needs.
I have that same feeling too, Rudeezy, that Claxton is going to be traded with Damp in the end. I feel claxton is more a starter because he needs minutes to be productive. Because he tries to do too much at times when he comes of the bench. He doesn't have to worry about produceing in limited minutes. But maybe that was becuase of his shoulder injury early on.
Claxton stays and plays 25 minutes a game. NVE is on the IR and at best plays in 30 games this year, if he's not shipped elsewhere.
I like Speedy. I hope he does not get traded. I hope it all works out between him and Fish. The best player wins the starting role. Put up or shut up!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting custodianrules2:</div><div class="quote_post"> Does this smell like Dallas?</div> Smells more like the Knicks to me. The Warriors are going to be fighting with the Mavs and a couple of other teams for the 8th seed, so I don't see them making a deal to get the Mavs a defensive big man. The Knicks are in the hunt for Dampier, and they could use Speedy to backup Marbury. The Knicks are already capped out, and have had a hard time trying to move any big contracts. Two players the Warriors might be interested in are Mutombo and Harrington. They both have expiring contracts and would give the Warriors cap space for next season when they need to Murphy and Richardson. A trade I would like to see would be NVE & Dampier for Mutombo, Harrington, and Tim Thomas. The Knicks land a top center and finally get a shotblocker. NVE was a target a couple of seasons ago, and he could be insurance in case Allan Houston struggles with injuries again. NVE's ability to play either guard spot and shot the 3 ball is something the Knicks lacked last season and it killed them in the playoffs. The Warriors get 2 expiring contracts, along with more size, and they get an athletic poward forward in Thomas. Even if Thomas does not work out in GSW, they only have to deal with him for 2 seasons. He also gives them a little insurance in case the Warriors cannot re-sign Murphy next year. Thomas played his best coming off the bench with the Bucks, during the Allen, Big Dog, and Cassell years. He would give the Warriors some solid points off the bench and take advantage of other PF's in the league with his ability to shoot from outside. This move also keeps intact the Warriors starting lineup. PG - Speedy / Fisher SG - J-Rich / Pietrus SF - Dunleavy / Thomas PF - Murphy / Uncle Cliffy C - Foyle / Mutombo Biendrins, Harrington, Eschmeyer round out the bench.

Although I would rather have hime start because he takes the starting PG and flat out shuts them down, he is a headache for other teams to keep up with. I say trade NVE and damp if we do a sign and trade. Speedy has earned his spot, he is a better earl boykins to me and i would hate to lose another earl boykins. We could put fish in to do the tempo running for the time being, then let speedy lose again. You know, I kinda like that kid from the 76ers, Samuel Dalembert, do you think we could trade dampier for him and a 1st rounder?
Fisher shouldn't start. Speedy is the player that's needed most for the rest of the starting 4 to be productive. While JRich is improving his penetrating skills, there are simply no other players who could get to the hoop very well. Thus we need Speedy Claxton to start because of that. But not only does Speedy give that to the Warriors he's a very good defender and he is extremely athletic, things that the Warriors also need. Speedy should start and I think he'll be very valuable to this team, just like he was last season. And I believe Fisher would be just as productive off the bench as Speedy would be. So Fisher should be the second team PG along with NVE(I think he'll play a lot of back up 2 as well).
I don't think Mullin has any plans of trading speedy. I think he's thinking of the future when the warriors let NVE's ass go.
Cap space? we pretty much got every old player coming off the books by next year and if we let Damp walk we also get cap space. Only guy who isn't doing anything with the money he is getting is Eschemeyer. He's got the lowest trade value because his contract runs for another 4 years and he hadn't played a single game all season last year. Besides I don't like this idea of Mullin getting more cap space with the way he spends.
