i would personally take muggsy. he was a solid if not good starter in the mid 90's, even averaged a double-double in the '93 season for the hornets. while giving up 2 inches compared to Boykins, haha. but stats don't tell the whole story. it could be argued that boykins could post similiar numbers if he started... so let the dicussion begin!
I'd have to go with Muggsy too. Although Boykins is playing excellent for the Nuggets right now, I think Muggsy was more consistant and bigger value to his team.
I would take Earl. I have always loved Muggsy and have viewed him as an ambassador for making it in the NBA despite obvious limtations, but the one special gift Earl Boykins has is his ability to produce consistently in the clutch. Muggsy could always be counted upon to protect the basketball and find a man, but I would never doubt Earl's ability to consistently come up with the key basket, steal, assist or even rebound.

I take Muggsy. Muggsy in his prime 3 years averaged: 10 ppg and 8.8 apg 3.7 rpg 10.8 ppg and 10.1 apg 4.1 rpg 11.1 ppg and 8.7 apg 3.3 rpg Muggsy was great at creating shots for others and it shows with those assists numbers. And, he was a supprisingly good rebounder. Muggsy.
I'd have to go with Muggsy...the man was one of the best point guards in the league during his time...earl still has a lot to do to prove himself...
I'd take Boykins. When his team really needs him, he steps up. Muggsy was efficient but he wasn't a clutch player like Boykins is. The things that Muggsy did, setting the tempo, passing the ball, Boykins could do that, too, if he got more minutes. I would rather have a clutch player who could do all the same things, so I'd pick Boykins.

Look at Brevin Knight and Earl Boykins. They can both start for a team like Boston, but their height stood in their way. The only player below 5-9 who has succeeded big time is Spudd Webb. On your second part, if the NBA sucks, what are you doing on a NBA-focused site then?

I'd love to see Boykins start for an extended period and see what sort of numbers he could put up. My prediction would be around 16-17 and 7-8 dimes.
I think Mussgy was better at using his size to pressure the ball full-court and disrupt opposing teams ball handlers. He created alot of turnovers on that old Zo/ Larry Johnson Hornets team. And that was cruial to that team because they loved to run & jump. So for play on both sides of the ball, I'll take Muggsy. But I think Earl has more scoring ablity than Muggsy.
I think they would kick some ass if they both were on the same team in a men's six foot and under summer league. Shave an inch off of AI and you have an unstopable team. No one can mess with the Pearl Boykins.
