    They'd be better off using softer soccer balls.

    I think they're more concerned over head clashes. It happens. Problem is the head is almost as important as the foot in soccer. Imagine trying to score a header with Čech's helmet on?

    More to your point, balls have gotten a lot harder and faster in the last decades. Current balls are very tight and flighty.

    Girls used to play ringette in Canada. If you don't know what that is, cut the blade off a hockey stick and replace the puck with a tubular rubber ring about 8" in diameter. The thought was hockey was just too rough for girls and the puck was too fast/hard.

    So much for that.

    I've heard of these before (slightly less bulky than Cech's). I think I was done playing before they came out though, cause I've never seen one on the field.

    I've always seen it with helmets but the article mentioned it specifically.

    If they are trying to cut down on concussions, maybe don't have kids play a game where they slam their heads into a ball?
