4 great shows I just saw on Broadway this week. If you visit NYC, I recommend all 4, especially Mormon and Motherfucker. Quick reviews: "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert"- based on the 1994 movie about three drag queens on a road trip through Australia. The Oscar winning costume designer is used again here. The songs are all existing disco hits like "I Will Survive," "Go West," and "It's Raining Men." Lots of fun. A big fabulous show. Pure fun. "The Book Of Mormon"- this is the hit of the year. It's a completely original musical by Trey Parker/Matt Stone (South Park) and Bobby Lopez (Avenue Q). Truly hysterical musical about two Mormon missionaries in Uganda. "Good People"- Oscar winners Frances McDormand (Fargo) and Estelle Parsons (Bonnie & Clyde) star in a play about a woman who becomes unemployed and hits up her old friend (a doctor) for a job. A simple play with very good acting. Written by David Lindsay-Abaire who wrote "Rabbit Hole," a play that was recently made into a movie starring Nicole Kidman. "The Motherfucker With The Hat"- There's a lot I don't want to give away here. It takes play in NYC and involves a man on parole (Bobby Cannavale) and his AA sponsor (Chris Rock). Great story, great direction, great acting. Chris Rock is hysterical. I highly recommend this. So there you go. Go to NYC and see theater! There's some good stuff out there.
book of mormon with puppets like avenue q? i love that show, and trey and matt kick ass too i gotta see this
i work at a theateer in nh, we do a few broadway shows, in the last couple years ive seen lets see... moving out sweeny todd cats spamalot superstar caberet rent hairspray the producers and more cant remember, doing a show called "spring awakening" on april 5th, we get stuff after its kinda played out sometimes...
No puppets in "The Book Of Mormon." But the music is co-written by the same guy. "Spring Awakening" is good. That is one of my claims to fame actually because I played one of the leads in a developmental workshop of it back in 2001. Lea Michele (Glee) was in it too.
