    Former boxing promoter Mike Barrett has died following a heart attack in Cyprus-He was 85 years old.

    Barrett was one of the famous four that monopolised British boxing in the 1970’s and 80’s. Together with Jarvis Astaire, Mickey Duff and Terry Lawless they were known as ‘The Cartel’.

    During their time, Astaire, Duff, Lawless and Barrett guided Cornelius Boza Edwards, Jim Watt, Maurice Hope and Charlie Magri to world title glory. They were also responsible for taking Kirkland Laing, Frank Bruno, Mark Kaylor, Horace Notice and many more talented boxers to domestic and European honours.
