<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Providence has offered its men's basketball job to UMass coach Travis Ford, FOXSports.com has learned.

Ford, 38, a candidate at LSU prior to a new athletic director being brought on board last week, was on campus at Providence on Wednesday afternoon.

Ford released a statement that he wasn't interested in LSU on Tuesday night — just hours before the Tigers reached a verbal agreement with Stanford's Trent Johnson.

Providence was spurned last week by George Mason coach and alum Jim Larranaga.

Ford is 62-35 in three seasons at UMass and led the Minutemen to a 25-11 record this past year. UMass lost to Ohio State in the NIT championship game.

If he accepts the job, Ford would replace Tim Welsh, who was fired after a 160-143 mark in 10 seasons.</div>

AMHERST, Mass. -- Travis Ford has told Providence College officials he will not accept their offer to become the next coach at PC, deciding instead to remain at the University of Massachusetts.

There is no word on the Friars' next move in their coaching search, which began when they fired Tim Welsh nearly a month ago.</div>
