I get my fattest paycheck next week and I'm looking to get a PSP. I've seen a deal in the Best Buy flyer that has a PSP plus the MLB (05) game on sale together. I'm thinking of picking that up, and a 2GB Memory Stick. I'd probably also have the dough to buy a new game. I was looking at buying NCAA Football 07 but after reading some reviews, there appears to be a pretty significant glitch with the running game. What other games should I look at, from those of you PSP owners out there?

GTA: Libery City Stories I will be buying second-hand. Which new game should I get?

As a former owner of a PSP I highly suggest to keep away from it. It's movie marketing is failing and the compatibility is about to drop. Soon you'll only see comedies being released. This is due to high prices with less extra features, which doesn't make any sense now does it? It's gaming market is dropping like mad right now, which is really sad. The games being released are usually sub-par with a few exceptions to a few nice releases. Many of which are just downsized versions of better ones on PC or PS2 though. I was lucky enough to sell my PSP for the exact price I paid for it and I thank God every day.

When Liberty City Stories was released many praised it. Mostly because it was a GTA game you could play anywhere with decent graphics. It was to help save the handheld player but it surely hasn't. To make up for sales loss Rockstar broke their promise that the game would be PSP only and released it for much cheaper on the PS2 and it's still failing with the exception of those that actually believed it was going to be something new and influential. Liberty City Stories isn't what it's made out to be either. Take this is a big deal, being that I was a huge fan of the series for years it was one of the only games I bothered playing to even purchase a PS2.

Many will detest what I'm writing, but the majorty of my friends are still waiting for better games as fanboys and praising. Others have seen the light and rid of the hefty priced piece of crap the best they could. I'll say it's cool to have one for a few weeks, but then you get the just of it and realize you've wasted your money but something in the back of your mind is telling you, "Nah, you're good to go, it's cool, it's going to get better." It just doesn't. If you don't take my advice, that's cool man I'm only writing this to help you out is all. If you do, save that hard-earned cash and put it towards going somewhere nice someday.

LCS was a real letdown imo. I got it for PS2 and it just plain sucks. Not even worth it.

Believe me it's even worse on PS2 then on PSP. But both are crap anyway; it's good for the fanboys is all. The only game I really thoroughly enjoyed on PSP was Winning Eleven 9. But it's better on PS2 and the complete deal on PC with all the mods you can mess with and create yourself. Add to the fact that PC is about $20 cheaper and looks better and we have a winner. That's what swayed my decision in selling the PSP because I loved that game so much being able to take my football (soccer) gaming anywhere I wanted. But it wasn't enough to keep that expensive thing for one game. The hell with that.

Thanks for your input M Two One. I've done my research and I do know the consensus is that it's been a flop, but I plan on getting the PSP for its multimedia capabilities as much as the gaming. I never planned to buy UMD movies or music anyways, but with a 2GB memory stick, I could use the PSP as an MP3 player, movie player and also for games. There are not a lot of desirable games but my PS2 just blew out two weeks ago and I don't want to spend the money on a new one. I just need something to bridge the gap of a year, after which I hope to buy a PS3 (when prices drop, don't like 360 in general). The PSP, with its versatility and portability, just seems so attractive to me. The DS has better and more innovative games but I don't really want to play Mario...

I got a PSP for Christmas and it broke for some unknown reason. It's not like I broke it or anything... it just doesn't turn operate properly. I turn it on, the light turns green, but the screen stays black. Maybe I just had a bad experience with one, but I suggest you spend your money elsewhere. You pretty much NEED a memory card with decent space (not that 32 MB junk that comes with it) to do anything other than playing the games. It would be better off spending your money to buy an IPod or something else.

I had a PSP for maybe a month. I bought two games for it (GTA: LCS and Need for Speed Underground 2). I got bored of LCS pretty quickly because its essentially GTA:3 all over again. Need for Speed was fun for about 40 mins, then i got bored of it. Traded it in for Madden '06. That game was horrible...the gameplay was just too slow.

I sold it for $300 with 2 games, a UMD movie, and a Case. I'd say I was lucky to get that much for it. If you're gonna keep it as a substitute to your PS2, then maybe you'll enjoy it.

Isn't it $199 for the system only now? During Christmas it'll be like $150.

My paycheque was $760. I plan on spending an initial $500 on the PSP ($350 on system and games, $150 on memory card)...

Also, I just bought my fourth MP3 player two weeks ago on my last paycheque, and definitely don't want an iPod. I have a 64MB, 256MB, 20GB and now a 4GB. None of them are iPods (2 Creative, one no-name, and now a Samsung Z5), and I'm happy with all of them and definitely will take them over iPods anyday.

No problemo bro, but don't expect PS3 to be a good deal for quite some time. As we all know developers for consoles using new technology take a year or so to put out top quality games. usually the first year consists of learning what they can work with and expand. For instance everything released thus far on XBOX 360. The console is much more powerful than what they are currently releasing. Also, it's expected due to blu-ray chip technology that the console will be priced at $499 for the soft core. And the advanced with be $599. These are expcted to be the possible lowest prices for the console release. We also won't see a price drop for more than two or three years due to Sony's losses from making the price point as low as it is. Even though to us it's damn expensive. I'll still end up getting it, but it'll be a while as there's more important things in life to spend that type of money on, you know? Console gaming just got a little crapier. [IMG]

As for PSP, just a fair warning that you will have to deal with megapixel bulb blow outs and send the PSP to the manufacturers once in a while. Otherwise you'll have little black dots all over the screen. It's free so that's the good portion I suppose. This can happen at any time though, even by barelly touching the screen. I am dead serious. If that doesn't bother you then go for it. You'll probably need it now that your PS2 is dead.

EDIT: Btw, what exactly is wrong with your PS2? I've fixed plenty in my time and I might be able to help you out.

I don't know what's wrong with it, but everytime I load in a game, the PS2 menu shows up and the game starts running, but most games don't make it to the Starting Menu. Other games don't even load anymore. It was bought four years ago and was hard-modded right off the bat, so I was kind of expecting it to burn out one of these days. Seems like something with the DVD drive is wrong, but I don't want to spend some more money to get it fixed. The PSP purchase was planned for a while now and my PS2 burning out just makes it more of a need. I'm too much of a Sony fanboy anyways to care about the pricing of the PS3. Once I'm in university, expect me to blow that money on the PS3, but before that, light gaming is planned so I could get into the school I want lol.

As for dead pixels on the PSP, I do know they show up after some use. I've seen them before and they're barely noticeable. The pros of the PSP are just great stacked against the cons; especially if I get a F/W 1.5 for homebrew.

How often to do you clean your PS2? Have you ever cleaned the lense or the filter? This is most likely the problem most people come in with. I'd say a whopping 90% of people so you may as well try this. Buy the Fellowes multi-media cleaning system that comes with liquid and the disk. When you return home take a vacuum with a brush attachment or just find someone that has it and clean the front filter. Do this every two weeks to prevent any future problems. Then once you're done, vacuum the back fan. Use an electronic cleaning spray if you have one. Make sure it isn't a spray that causes moisture.

Insert the Fellowes disk into your PS2 and follow the instructions given. Once you're done give it about 10 minutes. Insert a game that is clean and give it a go. 80% chance it will work, if it doesn't there are other solutions. The Fellowes product is not expensive and you can find it at Office Max, Staples, or other stores similar. Do not buy PS2 design cleaning modules they're faulty and most likely over time will cause fatal damage to the lense. Tell me the results when you get them.

Thanks for the tip! I'll go out for that tomorrow, and I'll be sure to keep you up to date on the results. I use one of those DVD player cleaning disks on the PS2, but have never used a brush to clean the lense. I have though, taken the PS2 apart and dusted out the inside. Either way, I'm gonna go out for the PSP and if I can get the PS2 working again, return the PSP. [IMG]
