Love Detroit lake but I especially love Breitenbush. The fishing used to be lousy on the Breitenbush river but the hot springs and the camp grounds were out of sight. When I was a young boy my uncle would get up early in the morning and catch a few trout. My aunt, against my uncle's protestations, would fry up the fish which our two families would enjoy for breakfast. It drove my uncle nuts which we could all hear about as they argued in their tent. Funny thing is that when he died, I did most of the work moving all of his stuff out of the apartment he was living in. Some that stuff was his tools which were very very heavy. I busted my ass from dawn to dusk and got nothing in return even from his will. I had to buy my own lunch. This was the family that thought I was a mooch in early grade school because my family had little to no money for food so my aunt would invite me to her house for dinner. I also hurt my back helping my uncle and same age cousin move a box car full of slate to the back yard of his house. I made a pittance and worked my ass off. (I've always been a hard worker)
The Detroit reservoir has much better fishing. Beautiful country.

Of all the arms on the Detroit reservoir, I always preferred the Blowout creek arm. I fished that creek several times for some lunker trout before the reservoir was in place. It was an exceptional creek, I suppose it was due to ideal spawning beds up stream for trout.
It still seemed to be the best after the reservoir came to be. Makes sense I think, although it works well for Kokanee too.

I really spent a lot of time exploring the Lake country on the West & SW side of Mt. Jefferson. Pamelia, Marion Lakes and perhaps a dozen more. Had to hike to get to any of them.
Still the only way, I think.

Hiking Marion Lakes with my pops in my preteens were some of my favorite times. I would always beat him at poker on the lakeshore, playing with smarties as chips. Looking back, he may have been letting me win.
