What would you guys think of a trade like this

Richard Jefferson and Marcus Williams for Outlaw, #13, and Raef LaFrentz

I'm not a Blazers fan, but I think they'd do it in a heartbeat.

Here are the cons to that deal for Portland

Portland has a plan in place to have salary cap flexability next summer. While taking on Jefferson doesn't kill that, trading Outlaw and kepping players like Jack, Webster and Frye does.

You also included Marcus Williams in the deal, and I doubt he fits in with the "culture" Kevin Pritchard is trying to put together in Portland......(character over talent)

I'd like to have Richard Jefferson, but not at the price of taking on bad people or getting rid of cap friendly pieces.

I agree with that. Portland has to be very careful about what kind of commitments they make through trade, because they have a lot of young talent that will need to be secured in the near future.

btw, Welcome to S2 Kansas Man!

was Marcus Williams a malcontent in NJ?
I think he may have been upset about a lack of playing time, but I never heard much about him.
Who is Portland targetting for next year?

also, they're going to be MILES (pardon the pun) under the cap and Jack and Frye are not really costing that much especially since Frye is a team option to pick up.

RJ is a veteran player this young team needs. He's played on the Olypmic team and is a very solid SF. Sure he's a big financial assumption, but given the salary some players are paid, he's actually not bad given the fact that he's a very good player
Here's Portland's outlook the next few years.

    Welcome to S2 Kansas Man

Celtic Fan - Never trust Hoopshype's Salaries Numbers. Storyteller's and S2's are more accurate.

You are forgetting about cap holds (again, never trust hoopshype). Portland won't have tons of cap space unless they make some other moves.

    thanks for the link.
I guess the big difference is Hoops Hype isn't counting any options and doesn't update it if they are exercised as quickly.

still 16 mill under is nice and getting RJ would mean they wouldn't have to get exercise all of the options.

I don't think they're going to do much better at #13 and I don't know who they're targetting for summer of 09 either, unless they think their franchise players will go through growing pains until then and THEN they'll get an all-star vet to help them get over the hump...

But they won't be 16 mil under because of the cap holds for Raef, Frye and Webster. So if Raef doesn't get traded (which I doubt), he would have to be renounced and Webster and Frye would have to have new contracts before the Blazers would have any space.

    Welcome to S2, KansasMan!

As a Nets fan, I would do that in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd even take the 2nd rounder instead.
