Why should I belive Green is going to be this huge star in the NBA? I really want to believe it, but seeing him play the last few games, I am very hesitant to say it. I need some reasoning. I understand players like Kobe started like this, but Kobe could still play pretty good D. I don't see that in Green.

Kobe was also able to dribble the ball without losing it, looking like an uncoordinated special ed. student, and/or falling on top of the ball off penetration. I like Gerald Green... he's a good guy, he's a freak athlete, he's got a beautiful touch (although a very streaky shooter)... but he has one of the lower basketball IQ's in the league, is uncoordinated, can't defend, and even with that stroke, he doesn't know how to use it. Due to his poor basketball IQ and poor ball handling skills, he is unable to create his own shot. Until/unless he improves in those aspects, it's probably best for him to learn how to move well without the ball... the problem with him is that he stands in the corner waiting for the ball to come to him. I'd love to see him succeed, but I honestly don't think he's much better than he was when he was drafted in 2005.
I think Rashad McCants is a much better basketball player than Green right now, and I think coach Wittman feels the same way. The only person who thinks differently is High54Life here on S2. With the Ricky Davis trade, Gerald has the perfect opportunity to prove he's worthwhile. There is absolutely no reason why he shouldn't be able to break out this year. If he can't step in and get things on track this season, there's no way I can continue to say he can be an All-Star.

I don't think he'll end up being a star. Probably just an above average player who can dunk the best. lol

That sucks to hear. And knowing you guys watch the Celtics means you have seen him much more than I have. I know he has the potential to become a star in this league, it's whether or not hecan utilize all of his talents. Luckly McCants is playing nearly flawless basketball and as far as I know he is starting opening night. (Foye, MCcants, Gomes, Al, Ratliff)Theo Ratliff has been a very pleasant suprise for us.He still has great timing in blocking shots and has a move or two on offense suprisingly enough. He shows much more intensity than our last three startingcenters (Rasho, Olowokandi, Blount). But back to Green, I don't think he will play too much at first, but the one thing coach Wittman is good at is developing players. I am hoping he can do that forGerald.
So, Celtics fans, satisfied with Garnett?

QUOTE (tim)

So, Celtics fans, satisfied with Garnett?

Yeah, that guy is pretty decent. I mean he's no Scalabrine, but he's alright.
Tim, what are your thoughts on Sebastian Telfair thus far? I've said all along that he was the steal of the trade, and I've been one of the very few Celtics fans backing him from day one. Clearly, he disappointed a bit last season, but I also think Doc mismanaged him. Bassy isn't the type of guy you can just scream at, bench, and throw out there randomly expecting big results. He's an emotional guy, he needs stability in the rotation. I think he is really starting to screw his head on straight, and while I don't think he'll ever live up to his New York hype (which is virtually impossible for any human being to do), I think he's going to be a very solid point guard for a long time. He's got excellent court vision, takes much better care of the ball than he used to, is obviously lightning quick, and he loves the game. Say what you want about Bassy, he loves the game of basketball.
I also don't believe for a second that he's a bad guy or a negative influence in the locker room. Sure, he carries a gun sometimes... but he is a scrawny 5'11'' dude who grew up in Coney Island. Of course he's going to feel the need to bring protection... especially after he was robbed at gunpoint last winter. The fact of the matter is that he's a good guy, he wouldn't hurt a fly, he's energetic, has natural leadership qualities, he comes to work, and once again - he loves the game.
Based on the reactions I have read on Timberwolves fan sites, everybody seems to be very pleased with Bassy's play in preseason. What do you think, Tim?

Bassy seems to have "figured it out". He is making great passes by driving, bringing all the defenders to him, and kicking it out. He seems to have a chip on his shoulder every time he plays and I'm hoping it continues. His shooting has improved also, so hopefully that isn't a fluke. In the last game of the preseason he had 8 pts and 6 assists. Im hoping he can turn into a dependable player.

CB32 and tim... Please need reason to be worried about Gerald. Green will become a star in this league. I'll put my money on it. What I don't get is seeing a 24 year-old McCants and a 40?-year-old Greg Buckner get more minutes than someone that needs them in Green. Wittman is being an idiot. Gerald Green has to start for this team to become a star. Don't listen to CB32, what he says isn't true. Gerald moves very well without the ball and most of his points come from him running off picks. He's a sick shooter/scorer. Due to the fact that Gerald played started playing ball in his sophmore year is the reason his basketball IQ is so low. But Wittman doesn't play him. The Wolves are setting there selves for disaster. McCants will go down in an injury in no time. Watch! Earth to Minnesota: let GG play!

Is Gomes really starting?? He should not start above Green at the 3. Gomes is not a SF, he is a PF, he should be backing up Al.

High5, you say that what I think of Gerald Green isn't true... yet 95% of both Celtics and Timberwolves fans agree wholeheartedly. That should tell you something. If Gerald Green turns out to bust, you'll still be a delusional Gerald Green tree hugger and you'll blame every coach he ever goes through. Face the facts... he is giften athletically, but he is a terrible basketball player right now. Terrible.

High5, McCants may not have as much potential as Green, but as of right now, he is a much better basketball player than Green. McCants is 24, as you said, so he still has more room to improve.Take it from an unbiased guy who like all Timberwolves equally. McCants isn't injury prone. He hasn't gotten hurt other than the microfracture surgery, and that procedure could happen tto anyone. He recovered very quickly also. You say Buckner is 40, he's 31. I hope that Green can become the cornerstone of this team, but RIGHT NOW he needs to learn how to play smarter basketball.

I just bookmarked this page to show you guys, how stupid you will look in April. Gerald could very well have a break-out season when McCants gets hurt in mid-November/December. Terrible basketball player? He has some how managed 10.4 points a game and about 3 rebounds in the NBA. You guys have given up on Green and this season will show you all. Gerald Green = Best player in the league......to get no burn.

He hasn't shown any progress from I've seen. He won't have a breakout April if he doesnt progress. I know he did it last year but that doesn't mean he'll do it again. You have to understand, I want him to do well. Putting down other players on his team won't change anything. He is nota terrible basketball player, but he certainly isn't the best playerin the NBA.He definitely can shoot and has tremendous athletisism, but he can't play defense very well at all and NEEDS to learn how to utilize his talents on the offensive endif he wants to become a star in this league.
As of right now, Rashad McCants is a far better player on the Wolves and will probably be the second leading scorer on the Wolves. I know he won't get hurt. He was running full speed after his surgery. You aren't injury prone if you have one major injury.I will assume that Green will play a little bit in the first game but won't play for a decent amount of the time this season. He won't be a part of the "regular rotation", but if he begins to play smarter, he will end up playing. Sebastion Telfair looks like he has finally figured it out and hopefully his success this preseason will transfer in the regular season. If Green can learn the way Telfair did, he could eventually become our best player and a very fun player to watch. That'snot saying he isn't now.(fun to watch, not the best player part)
