Why do all you guys obsess over players that leave or past players. I see a thread: "Sergio, 2 min of play" or "Travis scratches his nut-sack". Why do you all care so much when they leave? Just wondering.
There are certain posters around here, who become so heavily emotionally invested in certain marginal players, that they feel obligated to start a thread every time "their guy" breaks wind. See, I told you he was going to have a break out season. Why did we ever trade him. He's a future all-star. Trading him costs us any chance at being a dynasty. Heaven forbid any of these guys ever actually do anything significant. A guy scores four points and gets one assist in his crappy team's 16 point loss and he gets not one, but TWO threads dedicated to this monumental accomplishment. These so-called fans often cheer for "their guy" to succeed, and his replacement to fail, just so they can feel vindicated in their irrational jock sniffing of some marginal talent that once upon a time wore a Blazers uniform. That's right. They put their love of "their guy" ahead of the teams' success. They bash our GM, our coach and our remaining players in a pathetic attempt to make "their guy" look good. I started my Theo Ratliff thread to mock this stupidity. I have now adopted Theo as "my guy" and will honor this board with regular updates of his awesomeness (you know, like anytime he scores at least 2 points in a game, blocks a shot, or plays more than 0:30 in a game). Because, evidently these sorts of things are considered thread worthy around here. Damn, I blew my "OT: Theo a starter for CHA!" thread opportunity. Oh well, maybe Diaw will go down and I will get a chance to start an "OT: Tyrus a starter for CHA!" thread, or maybe an "OT: Brockman a starter for SAC!" Who is Joey Dorsey playing for these days? Anybody pick-up Shavlik Randolph or Michael Ruffin? How about a Brian Skinner appreciation thread? BNM
Oo! Oo! Oo! Josh McRoberts had 7 points, 5 reb and 3 assists tonight in his team's 9 point loss. If 4 points and 1 assist in a 16 point loss is worthy of TWO threads, where all all the McBob tribute threads? That level of play surely deserves at least three threads. BNM
To be fair, my boy Zach Randolph DID become an All Star. And Blake is getting raves in L.A. And Outlaw is still VERY young and has a chance of reaching All Star or near All Star heights.
It's been a week since a pretty big trade for us. Travis and Steve weren't just on the team, but they have been on the team during the worst of times, and helped shape the team into a playoff participant and playoff contender. I don't think that posters wanting to evaluate the trade so recently since it passed, in their own ways, is that big of a deal. Plus, Outlaw has been out for months, and he finally played his first game last night for the Clippers. If people don't like threads, why click on them? The thread titles are blatantly obvious and reflect the content of the posts.
Wow, that's a whole bunch of strawmen and red herrings. I certainly won't complain about your "RATTLER" updates, though I do find your plan petty, egocentric, and childish.
I responded in another thread about this so I'll try not to be as wordy. I think many Blazer fans are differnt (in spite of some in this forum) in that being the only pro sport team in the state, fans really identify with players. You often see them in the community or hear about local places they frequent. Most fans are realistic in undrstanding that Ptd isn't the ideal location for a young millionaire, so those who come to play for the Blazers and like the area to boot . . . IMO, a lot of Blazer fans bond with these players and are proud they represent our city. Then Travis is a unique case in taht he came to Ptd at the age of 17, skinny, shy, mild manner ah shucks kind of kid. Ptd fans watched Travis grow from a kid into a man in front of our eyes . . . he is a genuine, kind, caring individual and a competitor on the court who cares about winning above his personal stats. Obviously he has his flaws, but most fans are proud of what this young man has developed into. I phrased it as though the Blazer organization is losing a son. I know to some around here, they don't get that mentality . . . but it does exist among many of us.
I learned in this thread that discussing a very recent trade involving our longest tenured player and a two-time Blazer makes me a "so-called fan" and full of "stupidity". So I care about the players. I'd follow all ex-Blazers, and given how recently this latest trade was completed, I guess I don't see why tracking how they are doing is that big of a deal. Don't likey, don't clicky. It's really that easy.
There is no such thing as fair. But obviously, there is such a thing as fantasy after reading your post.
Didn't you know? Any player who was ever drafted by Portland is obviously going to be superior to the rest of the league talent, and of course, they are watching for that to manifest as soon as they leave to another team.....
