Does anyone know what the cap hold will be for Aldridge?

Assuming we renounce guys like Rolo, Freeland, AA, Gee, et al, how much space will Aldridge eat up until he signs his extension?

If we do end up signing him, I'm curious how much cap space we would have to play around with before he inks the deal.

I have read that we have 39 million in cap space, and the cap will be around 63 million. If we decide not to renounce LA or Wes, how much of that will be left?

I think Schilly has answered this in another Lamarcus thread..search Schilly's posts and you'll find a wealth of info concerning cap, etc

    Nice!

Thanks. So based on that.. the cap hold of LA, Wes, and Rolo alone would eat up ALL of our cap space. Awesome......

His cap hold will be somewhere between $18-20 mil depending upon the final number for the salary cap next year. For an unrestricted free agent in his situation the cap hold would be calculated based on 150% of his previous year's salary, but not more than the maximum salary. For LA, that would put him into max territory. For a player with his years of experience, it's 30% of the team salary cap number. I've seen estimates that the cap will reach $68 mil next year, which would equate to a maximum salary for him of $20.4 mil.

So if we're going to make a move on anyone else, we will have to renounce Rolo and Wes almost immediately.

Yup, which is why getting LA to sign or, if he's going to leave, do it quickly is so important. Can't make any other plays until he's decided.

But if he signs, wouldn't that essentially eat up a huge chunk of space? His cap hold is probably less than he would actually sign for. Seems to me, if we know he's going to re-sign, it would be better to have him hold off so we can use the rest of the cap space on someone else.

His cap hold is equal to the greatest amount he could sign for. Believe I read somewhere a cap hold can not be higher than the largest amount a player could sign for.
Going off of the 20.4 number, and a 68 million dollar cap, Wesley's hold is about 10.9. , if we waived Kaman, we'd have roughly 9-10 in space. Rolo's hold would effectively kill our space. This assumes Blake picks up his option, Afflalo does not. And that we bring back Frazier and Crabbe.

Lamarcus' Cap hold will actually be the max based on his previous contract.

Well, it seems like with Aldridge, we really wouldn't be able to offer a max deal to anyone even if we did renounce everyone else.

No, waiving Rolo and Wesley (and Kaman) would give us about 19 million in space. I'd think Gasol is the only player worth a max deal for our team, maybe Jordan. But then you ask if Gasol alone makes us better than Rolo AND Wesley.

Well, what if we renounced Rolo/Wes/Kaman, signed Gasol (in my dreams) and then used the MLE on Wes? Is that even possible?

We would only have the cap space MLE, so like the 3 million one or whatever, instead of the 5.5. NO chance Wesley comes back on that.

Well nuts.... worth a shot. I'm actually really interested to see what kind of market there is for Wes after that injury.

I mean, who knows, maybe nobody else wants to touch him after it. I would bet someone will give him a decent offer. If I had to guess, I think we'd present him with 2 different offers, a 5 year, 40ish million dollar offer that gives him long term security just in case, or, a 2 year, 20 million dollar deal, 2nd year being a player option, to give him the opportunity to re-earn a bigger pay day next offseason. Basically, we're happy to gamble on you, but we want it at a lower per year cost, or, you can gamble on yourself sort of deal.

Gosh I don't know. That's a pretty big gamble considering his age and the type of injury. 8 million would have been a steal before he hurt himself, but now that's a fairly steep risk after we are literally just taking Roy's contract off our books.

    Quick Sumary

Estimated cap for next season $67mil

    Locked under Contract
    Batum $12.3 mil
    Lillard $4.2 mil
    Leonard $3.07 mil
    McCollom $2.5 mil
Blake $2.1 mil (he will opt in)
    Kaman $1 mil ($4 mil non-guranteed)

Guaranteed Total $ 25.1mil +/- leaving $41.9 mil in space if we renounce and cut everyone we can, and trade our draft pick.

    Non-Guaranteed contracts / Draft Pick

    Kaman $4mil
    Crabbe $0.95
    Frazier $0.85
    #23 Pick $1.1

Sub Total $29.7 mill $37.3mil left

    Free Agents with Cap Holds
    Lamarcus $20.1
    Wes $10.8
    Robin $9.1

Right about $40 for those 3, Putting us over the cap by about $2.7 mil

    Other FA's
    Wright $4.5
    Afflalo $11.6
    Freeland $3.7
    Gee $1.5

All in all with Cap holds $91 mil

One thing to keep in mind is if we hand on to rights and the cap hol keeps us over the cap range we still get a MLE.

Yea, maybe you do 4 years instead of 5. With the balloon in cap, it wouldn't be AS bad as it could be, if he was done. And, there'd probably be a lockout anyways to kill some of the deal.
