This is such a soap opera that it is hard to pick sides. Quincy was not a good QB coming out of college. He had some talent and could do some things very well, but overall he was just another project. Jerry Jones reached for him in the second round, in a move that was brilliant in my opinion. Typically, picks in the third round and later usually only sign a three year deal. So, suppose Quincy gets groomed a year, then plays ?OK? the next. What do you do? Do you chance he goes to free agency after year 3 or do you extend. Look at the Griese situation in Denver. That didn?t work out so well for them. Quincy got a five year deal at a cap number that is basically meaningless. We had all the time in the world to groom and evaluate him until something better came along. Even now, as a starter in his fourth year for a playoff team, he is making well under a million. If he puts up the numbers he did last year, it won?t be good enough. If he doesn?t really take off, he runs the risk of being a career backup and will miss his big contract. You never hear him complain about the fact that he truly is underpaid, which is refreshing. IMO, he has not shown to me that he is worthy of being the guy of the future yet. I like his attitude, work ethic, politeness, etc., but his skills just haven?t proven anything yet. This will be the first time he has played consecutive seasons in the same offense and OC, so we?ll see where it leads him. I think Hutchinson is done. His player of the week performance raised my eyebrows, but he followed it up with a 11 of 26 effort for 94 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT and a 36.4 rating. Worst of all, he was sacked 5 times and had 3 fumbles. It doesn?t look like anything has changed in the last 18 months. If Hutch is truly gone, I see Vinny coming to town. The only problem I really have with him coming in as a vet backup is the fact that Tony Romo gets canned. My hope is that he would make it to the practice squad. We haven?t got to see much of him, but I think he could make a decent backup. I will be interested to see what Henson looks like in camp. That will tell a lot about the future.
I promise you, if QC doesn't show marked improvement by mid year, or less if he is screwing up. then the QC era in Dallas is over, and good ridance. Hutch is toast so thats that. Then Vinny fills in while Henson is groomed and then its the Drew Henson show from then on. Quincy makes bad decisions, throws a terrible pass 50% of the time, isn't as light on his feet as people think he is and he isn't a leader by anyones definition, Jerry screwed up and its time to move on NOW.....Later folks
I saw Hutch on NFL Europe this past sunday and was somewhat impressed. Looking foward to Vinny as a caretaker is a sign of desperation if you ask me.
Please, tell me what you were most impressed by: 1. His accuracy (11 of 26 for 94 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT and a 36.4 rating.) 2. His elusivness ( 5 sacks ) 3. His ability to hang on to the ball (3 fumbles) 4. The way he shreds all those bush league secondaries in Europe. 5. His potential (Yea right, he is potentially the worst mistake Jerry has made in a while). 6. His consistency (He has had one good game, so he has been consistently bad). Do feel free to choose more than one of the characteristics that most impresses you. Desperation occurs when there are no options left in a given situation. We have several options, one of them is not Hutch. As far as QC, he is the type of Qb that impresses you sometimes then depresses you even more. In a way he is alot like Randall Cunningham was, he was a very exciting QB but made to many mistakes that cost his team games, big games. Later
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pats37)</div><div class='quotemain'>So what about Henson.... Is he just the next Hutch?</div> Ask me in August. I expect more out of him than I did Hutch, but who knows at this point. My gut tells me that he is the best QB of the bunch given a little time, but its way too early to guess as to whether he is a star or a bust.
Ya I hear ya just wondering if anything was being said about him in Cowboy world and curious about what you guys thought. He does have a similar career path to hutch which is why I said that, but your right who knows.
Jerry Jones selected QC and Hutch. Henson, on the other hand, was chosen by Bill Parcells, a winner everywhere he has coached. Now, of the above quarterback prospects and knowing what we know of QC and Hutch, who would you feel most confident in betting your money on to be the EVENTUAL starting QB of the Cowboys? My pick is Henson. Bill has chosen and groomed to many NFL QB'S for me to doubt that it will be any other way. Vinny signed a 1 year deal yesterday. Get the picture now? Vinny this year and Henson next year and beyond. Just my 2 cents. Later.....
