Quit the "Bogut is overrated" talk I've been hearing so many times from different people, "oh Andrew Bogut is overrated and is overhyped." Are you kidding me? If he is so overrated, why did he average 20+ points and 10+ rebounds? And don't give me that, "let's see him do it in the ACC or Big East" junk. Averaging 20+ and 10+ in ANY conference is a huge accomplishment. If he is so overrated, why did he win the award for being named the nation's best player, over players such as May, Simien, etc? If he is so overrated, why did he play so well in the Olympics, even against the US? This overrated talk is ridiculous. He is a tremendous talent and a tremendous athlete and to call him overrated and overhyped is obsurd in my view. He is nothing close to being labeled as that.
I agree that Andrew Bogut is not overrated, but I do wonder why players in the past have put up similar numbers and have not gotten near the credit. Kris Humphries, for example, averaged 21.7 ppg and 10.1 rpg on a Minnesota team that played better competition than Utah. However, Kris Humphries did not even win Freshman of the Year, none the less player of the year. It's not like he came out of nowhere either; the kid was a High School All-American. He ended up being only the #14 pick in the draft. Then the year before that there was David West, who averaged 20.1 ppg, 11.8 rpg and 3.2 apg, yet he was only the #18 pick in the draft. Yes, they are both three inches smaller than Bogut, yet they were Power Forwards and Bogut is a Center. While I don't think Bogut is overrated, I do think that his statistics are.
This comes as news to me being that people are calling Bogut overrated but are they crazy?!? Why because he didn't play in the ACC? The only talk I heard about Bogut is that it's getting more and more clear that he is going to be the number one pick in the draft. The people who called Bogut overrated obviously did not see him play a minute. Unless they are basing it off the NCAA game against Kentucky where he was tripled at times, I just don't see how somebody can call Bogut overrated.
It may have not been said on these boards, but on other boards I post at, and friends who say it. They believe his statistics aren't real, because he plays in the MWC.
I know this is off-topic, but anyone realized that the two number one picks in basketball and football are going to be from Utah? Alex Smith is already official, and Bogut is pretty much a lock. Talk about a good year. Anyway, I really don't think it matters what conference he plays in. He dominated wherever he played.
Definately, I find so many people are hating on Bogut, basically just because he's talked about so much, but the kid deserves it.

Anyway, I guess I am alone on my views of his statistics. Does anyone else not agree with me that players in the past years have gotten the same statistics but to less hype? Banks - I noticed that as well. I was wondering if that has ever happened before. I know it hasn't happened at Utah before, but has it ever happened at any school? You'd think that maybe Michigan, UCLA, Texas, or some team like that could pull it off, but Utah?
