Monty and Mully on what they thought about the Shaq to Miami trade. Mike Montgomery (Golden State Warriors head coach): I was more concerned about getting Derek Fisher signed, which we did. Chris Mullin (Golden State Warriors GM): Not too surprised. You heard about Shaq asking for the trade, you just didn?t know where he was going to end up. It didn?t come out of nowhere. from Talking trade by Morris O'Kelly / July 16, 2004 http://www.hoopshype.com/articles/shaq_okelly.htm Now get this... In response to the question about who was better, the Lakers or the Miami Heat, Mullin said: "the Warriors." That's awesome. I still think Mullin knows something we don't. So I'm not terribly too worried about the Foyle and Fisher signings.
The link was posted in the (very confused) Derek Fisher thread and talked about a little. (Clif25 pointed it out.) Rude actually has that last exchange as his quote in his sig. I didn't post my other thoughts on that mini interview, which was that Monty has the most earnest answers, while Mullin has very NBA-executive type answers. I mean, just compare his responses to the other execs.

But I just thought it was pretty "confident" or "arrogant" that Mullin would say such a thing in that the Warriors are better than the Lakers or the Heat at this point. So that was the interesting (at least to me) quote.
I think Mullin was just joking. He was implying that he really doesn't care about that, the Warriors are his team and we are on the rise.

I know its too early to bash him (and not easy for me to bash him, mind you, because he's my favorite player of all time), but still I am so worried about the warriors long term plan. Like next year if Murph or Jrich walk without compensation or just plain poor compensation I'll be so furious. Arenas, Murph and Jrich were the best picks that St. Jean had made IMO and I'd hate to see the last two go and end up with some other team (although it would be funny if they were both signed by the Wizards) next year. Meanwhile the Warriors having nothing but a bunch of old codgers who still have 4-5 years left on their deals and may not end up making the same impact in their mid 30's like Cliff Robinson has made.
