    Hey guys and gals

So, there is a pretty obviously injured raccoon stuck up in a cherry tree in my backyard, about three stories up. Washington County wildlife control are useless, and no one I've called will go up and get the damn thing, just set traps. I don't even think it can get down, so I don't think a trap will do it.

    Any advice?

This is going to sound incredibly harsh, but a .22 caliber rifle is probably your best bet ... and that depends on if you are in a residential neighborhood or not though. A raccoon will tear you to pieces if you try to handle it and even injured they usually scrap like hell.

If you are opposed to putting it out of its misery, you might try to contact a wildlife non-profit that specializes in rehabbing injured animals, they might be able to dart the thing and take it off of your hands.

Yeah I'm kind of in the middle of the suburbs and don't own a gun. Plus my family is the kind of people that would forever be haunted by a raccoon ghost if we did that.

If it's dumb enough to claw its way that high up a tree and just stay there, it's probably best that Darwin takes over here. If it were me I'd leave it alone and let it find its own way down, whether by starving or otherwise. Not all critters that can be saved should be saved.

Once it's back on the ground and if it's alive and still hanging out in the area after all the trauma, best to trap it and have it taken away.

I like this advise. Don't put yourself in harms way, just wait it out, it will climb down or die.

Or you could take a lesson from cartoons. Set a trap at the bottom and make the trap look like a bank. We all know raccoons are robbers in cartoons with their black mask and nighttime marauding.

get some mexicans from home depot to do it for you. they'll figure it out..maybe get 3 of them and make it a competition who can do it the fastest...and only pay the winner...maybe $25..... (record the whole thing for viral video fun times)

Why do you think it's injured?

But anyway, it's pretty clearly injured since it's tail is straight up missing and one of its legs just kind of drags. Walks real slow. It got down from the tree and is now in a neighbor's yard.

Throw him steaks every day till he gets his tail back, then bring in a female raccoon so the raccoons can crow like roosters.
