<span class="sommario">Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez was left ruing his side's lack of incisiveness after the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Anfield.</span></p>

Liverpool started the stronger of the two sides, but failed to make the most of it.</p>

Manchester United took the lead on the stroke of half time, and then managed to control the Reds through the second half to pick up a valuable win.</p>

Rafa Benitez, who now sees his side eight points off the lead, admitted his side were simply no sharp enough where it mattered - in front of goal.</p>

"We had our chances and didn't take them," he said after the game."They had just one, and that was the difference.

"In the second half we saw they were compact, working hard in defence, trying to play the counter. In the second half we had two or three chances and for me, that was the difference.

"When you play United you know you cannot create a lot."

Asked what really was the problem he said: "The corners. The second balls at corners. In this kind of game you know you won't have too many (chances).

"We knew we needed to win this game if we wanted to be closer. There is a long way, we just have to keep going."</p>
