Rajon Rondo was beat by an eight-grader
QUOTE

I don't want to completely disparage Rajon Rondo -- the kid definitely has some upside -- but he's clearly the weakest link in the Celtics' new-look starting five. Why? Quite simply, he can't shoot. Like, at all. From Jackie MacMullen in the Boston Globe: One day last spring, I was waiting to do a postpractice interview with Pierce, who was receiving treatment in the training room. There were only two players left in the gym: Rondo and Doc Rivers's eighth-grade son, Austin. Rondo, his shirt off, had assistant coach Kevin Eastman feed him the ball for 100 jumpers. With nobody guarding him, Rondo hit 52 of them. Minutes later, Doc's son duplicated the drill -- only he knocked down 70. A professional basketball player was beat by an eighth-grade kid? Now, I'm guessing Rivers' son inherited a set of stellar shooting genes, but still, he's in eighth grade! But fear not, Celtics fans, Rondo is striving to improve ... kind of: Shooting is all about two things: confidence and repetition. This summer, Rondo said, he has not allowed himself to quit for the day until he's buried 250-280 jumpers. Wait, is "250-280 jumpers" supposed to sound impressive? I'm sorry, but it's not, especially with Gilbert Arenas on a mission to make 100,000 jumpers this summer, including 1,500 a day. Rondo is settling for less than a one-fifth of the makes Arenas does each day -- and Arenas is already good! No wonder the team is willing to go after 41-year-old guards who can still shoot -- I wouldn't be surprised if Reggie Miller works on his shot more than Rondo does even two years into retirement.

http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/08/08/...-eighth-grader/

Nothing to get your panties in a bunch but that's plain pathetic. I love Rondo and respect what he does for the team but come on, you're a professional basketball player. That's wrong!

That's pretty bad to be beat by an 8th grader, but the title is a little misleading, When I first read it I thought he was beat playing 1 on 1...
But still, when your in the NBA, and you get beat by an 8th graded, that's pathetic....
Rondo REALLY needs to work on his shot, BADLY!

Shooting is a misleading thing....there are 100s of middle and high schoolers that do nothing but shoot all day long....of course those kids are going to shoot 70% when uncovered....and of course Doc Rivers son is a gym rat that can shoot....Rondo needs to improve, but its not a huge deal....I dont want my PG jacking up shots anyway
Want to trade Rajon over to the Bulls for Chris Duhon? We'll through in Viktor Khryapa and Mike Sweetney's leftovers.
I bet that kid could have neat some oter NBA players in a shooting contest. 70 out of 100 is pretty good, especially for an 8th grader.
If we are talking about uncovered jump shots from all over the floor, I think he beats the majority of 4s and 5s, and a good number of 1s....any 2 or 3 that loses to him should leave the league immediately
Look at tony parker.... I think rondo should'nt spend ALL his time on this. He should hone his best skills a lot more while working on his shot. And Rondo is young niggas develop.
I dont want my starting PG to be steve kerrish

If you give him room, he'll clang it, which is exactly what defenses want.
He can't develop if he doesn't work on it, think about it. It doesn't just improve with age out of nowhere.

The much despised K-Brown could drop 70/100 while playing horse (which is essentially what was going on here). 70/100 is impressive for an eighth grader, not terribly so for an NBAer. 52/100? Christ have mercy.
If they are mid-range shots or easier, 52/100 is rather bad. I'm not saying I could come close to that, but for a starter on a likely playoff team, that's awful.

QUOTE (ehmunro)

Rimjob Rondo? I smell nickname here.

Whoa there, let's stick to basketball chatter here.

I think it's a safe bet that a WNBA player can probably shoot more than 52% with no coverage. Rimjob's a particularly bad shooter.

QUOTE (ehmunro)

Rimjob's a particularly bad shooter.
That is damn funny and has nothing to do with basketball
Thats horrible. Tyrus Thomas is doing 800 makes a day. Rondo is doing 250-280. He isn't going to improve at all. Just looking at the guys like Tyson Chandler even doing more than that in a day. I'm sure Chris Duhon does more than that a day (not including his alcohol shots either). All the elite scorers go for thousands of makes a day. For a guy that is going to be wide open for jumpshots this year, thats pretty pathetic, and the Celtics are going to suffer for it.

QUOTE (Ed the Decider)

At least he didnt get beat by someone who plays in the WNBA...

There are plenty of WNBA players that would beat NBA players in a shooting contest. Shooting is a pretty universally equal skill.
