The St. Louis Rams didn't waste much time bolstering their depth at quarterback, deciding to add two to the mix. The team confirmed Tuesday afternoon it will bring back Austin Davis, who spent the 2012 season and the 2013 preseason with the team, and bring aboard veteran Brady Quinn. To make room on the active roster, the Rams will release offensive lineman Brandon Washington and place starting quarterback Sam Bradford on injured reserve. Coming out of college I thought Quinn was the real deal. That hasn't panned out. Watched him some at KC not impressed but don't know if I should hold that against him. I have no clue about Davis. I guess beggers cant be choosers.
Based on what little I saw from Quinn during the Seahawks preseason, I'd rather have him than a lot of the guys on the market who have had starting jobs this year (Jeff Tuel? Brian Hoyer? Ryan Fitzpatrick? Matt Cassel's corpse arm? Really?) I'd even rather go with Quinn over Josh Freeman, but that's b/c I bias towards FBIQ over athleticism from QB, which is one of a billion reasons why I love Russell Wilson more than Kaepernick. I don't think the Rams were going anyplace special this year anyway, so I don't think Quinn taking over for Bradford will be a huge dropoff. I think he'll be serviceable, and make you wonder what's happening with Sam and his big contract going forward.
The best thing that could possibly happen is that one of these QBs comes in and lights it up under the exact same circumstances that Bradford had. That would definitely spell the doom for sit-down-to-pee boy. I doubt that will happen but I can hope can't I? Of course every sword is double-edged. Then they'll be saying "See, it isn't Shottenheimer's bad offense after all" and then we'll never be rid of that buffoon.
Clayton said Quinn was activated, and Davis signed to the practice squad. Either way, I don't envy Kellen Clemens going against the Legion of Boom and their friends the Fantastic Front Four on a Monday night, with 10 days of preparation.
