Rams reach 3-year deal with Burton

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Former University of Kentucky receiver Keenan Burton says he's reached a three-year deal with the St. Louis Rams.

Burton says his agent, Todd France, finished the deal on Thursday. Burton says he believes the contract to be worth more than $1 million.

Burton was selected by the Rams in the fourth round of the NFL Draft in April.

Burton ranks fourth in receptions, third in receiving yards, second in touchdowns and third in all-purpose yards for the Wildcats. He was the fifth Kentucky player to amass more than 4,000 all-purpose yards.

Burton's best season came in 2006 when he caught 77 passes for 1,036 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Burton will report to training camp July 25.</div>

This was a guy who I was pretty intrigued by...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Compares To: ARNAZ BATTLE-San Francisco...Burton is much faster than Battle, but both take great pride in playing with physicality, as they have had great success powering their way through press coverage to come up with the clutch catch underneath. Burton has outstanding timed speed and an impressive reach, but is utilized more as a possession receiver because of his ability to move the chains and get a tough first down. He needs to refine his route-running, especially on deep patterns and most of his drops come when trying to catch over his inside shoulder. However, he is a smart, savvy player who knows how to settle into the soft areas on the field and use his frame to shade defenders from the ball. Much like Battle, T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Cincinnati) and Hines Ward (Pittsburgh), Burton will make a nice living going over the middle at the next level.</div>

Can we say than that the Rams got a steal with Burton? (especially with the contract being a little over 1 mill)

Too early to tell. Can't call it a steal until Burton pans out...

As for the contract, its probably what most 4th rounders get.

The Rams also drafted Avery too; IIRC. I know whomever they took was the 1st WR off the board. Interesting they went after another WR so early in the draft. Though, Holt is getting up there in age.....and Bruce just left them. Avery needs to step in immediately and help. Burton, they can take their time and develop him.

The signing bonus is guaranteed.... and any other money they "guarantee" is guaranteed.

I doubt the entire $1 million is guaranteed though.

Or were you asking if the pay was slotted? As in, they were guaranteed to make about that kind of money? Because that's sort of true...its pretty slotted (maybe something like an 8% raise over last year's 4th round picks)...

    Oh ok, thanks for explaining.

I meant like you know in the NBA, the 2nd round picks are not guaranteed contracts, does the NFL have something like that but it looks like not. [IMG]
