"This one wasn't filled with weirdness. It was straightforward, simple.

"We were flat," cornerback Quentin Jammer said. "We got our ass kicked. We just got beat."

Sure, there was a special teams gaffe, which did figure prominently in the end. But it was practically an afterthought in the grand scheme of an afternoon of awfulness.

The St. Louis Rams, a team that went 1-15 last season, beat the Chargers 20-17 on Sunday. The score was deceptive.

The Rams (3-3) built a 17-0 lead, then sputtered and coasted for much of the second half before ultimately sealing the victory in much the same way the Raiders came back to beat the Chargers the previous week.

After Nate Kaeding had a 49-yard attempt blocked, a 48-yard field goal with just less than four minutes remaining put the Rams up 20-10. The Chargers pulled to 20-17 when Buster Davis caught a pass in the end zone to consummate a 76-yard drive with 3:16 to play."
