Using the Hollinger game score formula (per 40 minutes) as my rating, I applied it to every player in the league. It's sort of like a quick PER-like stat, though not quite as exact and it doesn't adjust for the pace of the team. Here are the top 25 players per position (assigned positions from dougstats.com), where the cutoff was at least 400 minutes played. Again, purely based on box score stats produced per minute. Some interesting names in there:

I know D has become partially outmoded recently anyway, but how deeply does Hollinger's system value that side of the ball?

Somebody like Nash takes a big hit from me due to his total lack of defense.

Defense is represented as well as a player's individual stats in the box score represents it. In other words, not well at all.

The formula takes into account steals, blocks, defensive rebounds, and personal fouls. That's it.

To be fair, Hollinger is quite aware of this shortcoming in both the game score formula and PER, and he has a "defensive PER" which attempts to measure a player's defense. Still, difficult to capture, particularly without a lot of sample data (usually a couple seasons worth, in fact).
