"The Avalanche needed just 31 seconds to put away the Blues in the preseason opener for the teams Tuesday night. Colorado's David Jones and Luke Walker scored rapid-fire goals in the second period, breaking a 1-1 tie to lead the Avs to a 3-1 victory with 10,615 fans watching at the Scot- trade Center. Jones squeezed the puck past Blues goaltender Jaroslav Halak at 8:33. Jones set up the goal with a nice rush off a feed from TJ Galiardi. "Gali gave me a nice pass," Jones said. "I just had a one-on-one with a guy and just tried to take him wide. I sort of fanned on my backhand shot and just kind of followed it up, and the rebound was there." Walker ripped a one-timer past Halak at 9:04 off a perfect centering pass from Ben Walter. Patrick Bordeleau also got an assist. Jones said the quick goals changed the game. "It was huge to kill their momentum," Jones said.
