With GM Bryan Colangelo entering the last year of his contract, the onus seems to be on building a veteran team to make the playoffs and get people interested in the Raptors again. Colangelo is reportedly looking at Andre Iguodala from Philadelphia as a trade target, dangling Toronto's #8 overall pick in combination with a package of Jose Calderon's expiring, $10-million contract and young players, likely either guard DeMar DeRozan or forward Ed Davis. Toronto would receive Philly's mid-first round pick back in the deal and could take a point guard prospect to be groomed by Nash, such as Kendall Marshall or Marquis Teague. The Raptors are among three teams (with the Suns and Blazers) free agent point guard Steve Nash, 38, has shortlisted, according to pundit Eric Smith. Nash recently signed on as part of the executive group overseeing Basketball Canada and some are predicting that Nash will use a short (two- or three-year) contract with the Raptors to draw attention to the national program as he transitions from player to builder. Canada's prospects for the future look bright with highly touted high-schoolers like Andrew Wiggins making their way up. The Raptors are expected to sign Lithuanian forward Jonas Valanciunas this summer, their 2011 draft pick who spent the season playing in Lithuania rather than buying out his own contract during an uncertain lock-out year.
