Raptors and Utah Jazz are intrested in Nuggets player Luis Flores

Babcock said they cannot get McLeod just because he is expensive and they want a minimum-salary PG
and personally i dont know this kid and i dont want him
i would rather have Milt Back

Luis Flores can ball. He was the reason Manhattan was in the NCAA tournament 2 straight years(although they lasted 2 or 3 rounds the second year) a few years ago. I think Flores is 6'4 or 6'5, possibly 6'1. He was Manhattan's PG and SG. I would pick him up in a heartbeat. If Toronto wants a cheap quality PG, they should check out Marcus Hatten. It mystifies me that Hatten isn't in the NBA. The guy had sick D and pulled off some insane shots for St. John's.

Whatever happened to the centre from Niagara that Toronto said that they were really interested in. Juan Mendez! Did he sign with a team? I was surprised that Toronto didn't take him for their last pick 2nd round.

Juan Mendez signed with Miami and was seen in Summer League play. He didn't play impressively at all during Summer League games. By the way, he's a foward with no true position IMO, not a centre.

Hmm, do you think the Raps might've missed out in some talent?

I would be extremely suprised if Mendez makes it to a team's 15-man roster on opening night. I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that we picked the better player in Slokar (Even though I'm basing this on stats from SL). With Mendez, he's only like what, 6'8'' or so, meaning he's too small to play power, and doesn't have the range or the handles for SF. There was a lot of hype because he carried Niagara into March Madness but I don't really buy the hype. I think the Babs and the rest of the Raps staff did their homework on this one.

I just wished those two other picks could be on the roster this year. I was really excited to see what Roko Ukic could really do on the floor, but now were going to have to wait 2 years to see. Juan Mendez looked like he had a huge upside to his game. He sure did look slow also though, but I think that Babs did look at what was best for the team.

If we go on McLeod and Flores so we can forget about J Williams, Watson...

Really I don't think Juan Mendez huge NBA talent and would end up being a low rung player. However he is doing well for team Canada right now. Here is a site you can check out: http://www.fibaamericas.com/torneos1_us.asp?t=XGLQKBLQOI

Flores is a great player that would fit nice on the Raptors bench. He had great seasons at Manhattan, plays some tough defense, and he can throw up 20 points when he has to. He was the main reason big name schools looked out for Manhattan in the early rounds on the NCAA tourny.

I don't think Flores would be our answer to point guard. He has never played big minutes in the NBA and is more of a combo guard in the Eddie House mold. With the Raps looking for a steady traditional point guard, Milt would fit better than Flores would. That being said though, Flores is a great scorer and can play some mean D. His szie-6'2", makes him a tweener with no true position in the backcourt. I'd be much more satisfied if we bring back Milt and Omar Cook.

"DENVER, Aug. 30 -- The Denver Nuggets have waived G Luis Flores, team General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe announced today.
Flores was acquired by the Nuggets from the Golden State Warriors on February 24, 2005 along with F Eduardo Najera and a future first-round draft choice in exchange for F Nikoloz Tskitishvili and F Rodney White. Flores averaged 2.2 ppg in 16 contests during the 2004-05 season. He appeared in one game for the Nuggets scoring three points and grabbing one rebound vs. Atlanta on 3/1/05.

Flores was originally drafted by the Houston Rockets with the 55th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft."

Flore got waived today by the Nuggets and apparently his Agent is having serious talks with Utah, Toronto and the Hawks.

He's not the answer to the starting point guard spot, but he is the answer for that empty third point guard spot. He's not an established backup so he won't complain about playing time, and he is talented enough that he can step in and play some minutes along with Calderon when Rafer goes crazy or goes down due to an injury. How is he a tweener? 6'2" is not a bad size for a PG.

Flores is a tweener because he won't be a full-time point guard. He's a combo guard, a shoot-first point guard whose passing game is still underdeveloped. Flores is also pretty unproven in big minute situations; the most minutes he logged in a game is 19, hardly the type who could step in and contribute when asked to. Signing him won't be a bad move, but he is hardly the answer to our point guard problem.

Exactly. He is a combo guard and that's what we prefer as the third point guard on the Raptors roster. By being able to man both guard spots, it gives Mitchell more flexibility in regards to lineups. 19 minutes aren't that shabby for someone who was buried at the end of the bench most of the season. Of course he isn't the answer to the point guard problem, but as the third guard off the bench he is more than capable of filling the hole until Roko Ukic comes over and proves himself to be the starting point guard.
