According to league sources, the New Orleans Hornets wanted to deal Magloire to the Raptors for Vince Carter earlier this season but pulled back on the deal when Toronto general manager Rob Babcock tried to enlarge the trade to satisfy financial concerns.

Babcock, who is under intense scrutiny throughout the league in his first year running a franchise, would not comment on the specifics of any negotiations he had with the Hornets.

Magloire, 26, is just about to return from missing nearly three months with a broken ring finger on his right hand and would have immediately given the Raptors one of the best young centres in the East.

The Toronto native, who would dearly love to play in his hometown, was an all-star last season and would be a gigantic improvement on Toronto's struggling Rafael Araujo. And even if Babcock was reluctant to bring in a player who plays the same position as the first draft pick he made as a general manager, the move would have given the Raptors two young big men to battle each other for playing time. </div> Source
