<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday they have signed free agent guard-forward Hassan Adams to a two-year contract. Per team policy, financial details were not disclosed. Adams attended the Raptors’ free agent camp held June 20-22 at Air Canada Centre. Adams, 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, played in Italy last season. He signed in November with Ignis Draghi Novara (Lega2), where he averaged 20.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 3.0 steals in 12 games. In March, he moved to Siviglia Wear Teramo (SerieA) and averaged 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals in eight games.</div> Raptors News I like this signing a lot. Gives us some more depth off the bench and his stats impress me from his Euro playing days.
He really doesn't have an NBA position, but I still loved watching him play. He brings energy off the bench. If you're looking for another Jason Kapono forget about it.
Did anybody see him play in Europe (kobimel, maybe?). I've heard he made a lot of progress over there.
He averaged 13.1 ppg and 4.8 rpg in about 33 minutes per game for Siviglia Wear, with single-game highs of 20 points and seven rebounds. http://195.56.77.208/player/?id=ADA-HAS-84...7&team=1149 Looks like he began to accompany his energy with some skill. I'll be watching for him this season.
The Raps aren't bringing him in to score--at all. He'll touch the ball if he gets an offensive rebound, and even then he'll be expected to kick it out. They're bringing him in to defend. If he's good at that, we're rolling. If not, he's out.
He always was active, especially on the boards. Couldn't say anything particular about his defense though...
The key will be for Smitch to clearly define his role. We've had a lot of players come through here with very specific talents, that've been allowed to kind of freestyle and do their own thing to the detriment of the team (Fred Jones, Juan Dixon, Jamario Moon at times, to a certain extent TJ Ford).
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (AEM @ Jul 9 2008, 10:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>How about using him for some of what Garbajosa used to do, absent the outside shooting?</div> I don't think we have anybody on our roster than can give us what Garbo did that first season (maybe Bargnani if he gets his shit together, but I don't see him playing enough minutes at the 3-spot for that to happen). Jorge was a facilitator on our offense, somebody who could do a little bit of everything (picks, outside shooting, passing, etc.) to keep the offense from getting stagnant. And he was a great communicator and rotator on the defensive side. It might be a bit too much to ask for Hassan to fill that void. I'd like to see Adams be that spark off the bench. We're going to be pretty much a halfcourt team, but Hassan could bring a nice change of pace by playing pesky D and initiating fast breaks. We're really going to miss TJ's ability to do that this season, so hopefully he can somewhat lessen that blow.
yeah but Garbo was the scariest thing in the NBA that year. Adams is not going to be able to replace Delfino let alone anything TJ or Garbo did. a smaller Joey Graham with a bit more brains. unless Europe was life altering.
he isnt a shooter, range is limited and he is an average defender...however he brings sooo much energy; and finds a way to score when given the minutes. To sum it up, he slashes well to the basket and brings tons of energy. Nice 10th-12th guy to have on the bench.
