Ex-Bull Brunson on list of potential additions to team

Barry, Lenard also rumoured to be on Grunwald's list

The Raptors have expanded the search for the final piece of their backcourt puzzle.

While still looking at veteran free-agent Anthony Peeler, they have also expressed interest in a couple of other potential acquisitions.

One of the names being bounced around the Air Canada Centre last night was Rick Brunson, a former Chicago Bull who is a free agent.

With the Raptors expected to waive or buy out the final year of Lindsey Hunter's contract long before training camp begins, they will have an opening for a guard. Alvin Williams and Milt Palacio are the two players capable of playing point guard regularly and both can move over to play shooting guard, as well.

However, general manager Glen Grunwald knows he needs another player to fill out the roster and he's got a roster spot available.

Among the other combo guards and point guards on the market are Jon Barry, formerly of the Detroit Pistons, and Voshon Lenard, who spent last season with Toronto.

One player who apparently isn't on the Raptor radar at the moment is Shammond Williams, the former Denver Nugget who was in town to play in Vince Carter's all-star game last night.

However, team sources suggest Grunwald, mainly for salary cap reasons, doesn't want to sign anyone for longer than one guaranteed season and Williams is likely to command a multi-year deal.

NO NIGHT FOR DEFENCE: Milt Palacio couldn't show the part of his game he's most proud of last night.

The newly acquired Raptor guard said his defensive abilities are what makes him stand out.

And because he was playing in what was the most defence-free game imaginable in the Vince Carter all-star game, Palacio will have to wait until the pre-season to show his stuff.

"I think I'm going to fit in great," Palacio said before last night's game. "I pride myself on being a hard-nosed player, a guy who likes to get stops, get down and dirty. That's what I think I bring."

Palacio is expected to get major minutes backing up Alvin Williams at point guard.

Palacio, who spent last season with Cleveland, first came to Toronto's attention when he was working out with Carter and a handful of other Raptors at a fitness institute in Florida.</div>
