Then he can rattle off those three draft picks ? Michael Dickerson, Bryce Drew and Mircad Turcan ? as easily as his own name and cast a longing eye south.

"I would love to finish my career in Houston, to be back in front of the hometown fans and in front of my family," he said. "You never know what can happen. I'm happy in Seattle right now. But at the same time, there's no place like home."</div> -Houston Chronicle

It's good to see that Rashard has forgiven Houston for passing him up. It's also great to see that a player like Rashard Lewis has alot of interset in one day joining this team.

I personally would love to have Rashard Lewis on this team. Maybe we can sign him whenever he becomes a free agent. But how long is his contract? Any know?

Rashard's contract is $8,500,000 next season and after that he's a free agent.

I doubt we would land Rashard next summer. We'd be gearing up for Yao's extension by then. However, he's still young and still has a lot of time to go before he expires. Maybe we can sign him as a veteran when his coming contract runs out? He's a great scorer, but not the defender that would qualify on a Van Gundy team.

From what I've found on the NBA players' salary database on USA today, Lewis' contract is up to the 2006-2007 season with a player's option. Regardless of the player's option he'll gonna have two more years for the Sonics not counting this season.

There will be 6 players for the Sonics who will become a free agent after this season. They are Ray Allen, Vladimir Radmanovic(I'm not sure if they give him an extension last summer), Vitaly Potapenko, Ronald Murray, Jerome James and Antonio Daniels. I doubt it if they can sign all of them less Potapenko with Ray Allen demmanding a higher price tag. The Sonics might never repeat their current success going through next season. The Bobcats, Hawks and Clippers will be big players/shoppers on the the free agent market with more than enough salary cap space.

Although getting Lewis to the Rockets might not be possible right now, one bright spot is the chance again to go after Daniels using our MLE.
