Here's what I think might happen in the offseason for the Ravens, or what I want to happen that is. Free Agency <u>Ravens Free Agents</u> CB Dale Carter UFA S Will Demps UFA TE Darnell Dinkins UFA K Aaron Elling RFA DT Aubrayo Franklin RFA WR Randy Hymes UFA DE Jarret Johnson RFA WR Patrick Johnson UFA DT Ma'ake Kemoeatu UFA RB Jamal Lewis UFA FB Ovie Mughelli RFA OT Tony Pashos RFA OLB Tommy Polley UFA MLB Bart Scott UFA RB Musa Smith RFA RB Chester Taylor UFA DE Anthony Weaver UFA TE Daniel Wilcox RFA S Chad Williams UFA QB Anthony Wright UFA P Dave Zastudil UFA <u>What Should Happen</u> Deion Sanders has just retired early this month and Dale Carter is yet to announce it. So it's safe to say he's gone. Will Demps was told by GM Ozzie Newsome that he is not going to be resigned so he will be a free agent this March. I think that is a stupid move since he plays a huge role this year in the defense, being the eighth man in the box and is physical stats. Ma'ake Kemoeatu is their highest priority to be resigned. He is a massive nosetackle who can penetrate offenses in the middle. Jamal Lewis isn't tagged and that's a good thing. Now he will go join RB Free Agent heaven with Chester Taylor. Where he will be greeted by MVP Shaun Alexander and Edgerrin James. Tommy Polley and Bart Scott should be resgined because they proved that the defense does not miss Ray Lewis and is still stingy in the run defense. There are some question marks with Anthony Weaver, Chad Williams, and Anthony Wright. <u>Team Needs</u> Quarterbacks Ozzie Newsome gave his word when he said that Billick is staying for one more year. He was going to bring in a veteran QB to unseat Boller. Let's see what we have: Jon Kitna (CIN) UFA A very unlikely candidate because Bengals Coach Marvin Lewis hopes that he would be a Bengal next year in the absense of Carson Palmer Chris Simms (TB) RFA The Buccaneers have no answer for who will be a starter in the 2006 season, it is between Chris Simms and Brian Griese. Chris Simms proved that he can lead the team to win games and its unfortunate that is a restricted free agent. Josh McCown (ARI) UFA He is 9-10 as a starter in Arizona, enough said. Daunte Culpepper (MIN) Highly unlikely that he will be cut because Brad Childress wants him and Brad Johnson to compete for the starting job. But if Culpepper loses, there may be some trade in the works... Offensive Linemen We can look in either free agency or the draft for someone to take the right tackle position since Orlando Brown is getting old and might retire next year. And our guards are struggling, Edwin Mulitalo is having a hard time with blocking, Johnathan Ogden isn't having an Ogden year, and Keydrick Vincent was injured. Outside Linebackers It's hard to name specific players who could be a Raven but this is definetly one of the teams needs. Inside Linebacker Since Ray Lewis says he's not playing for the Ravens in 2006 and Bart Scott is going to be a free agent, we can always look here. Cornerbacks The Ravens already have two solid starters at the cornerback position but we need someone to play nickelback. Duane Starks (NE) UFA We can always reunite a former Ravens who is familiar with the defense. The Draft The draft is loaded with offensive linemen so that may be a good thing. We have our eyes set on a running back from USC by the name of LenDale White so he's our highest priority. Then in the second round, we could look at someone to replace Will Demps if he's gone or we can bring Chad Williams to play FS. 1st Round: LenDale White, RB USC 2nd Round: Ko Simpson, S South Carolina /// Jonathan Scott, OT Texas 3rd Round: Traded to New England from 2005 draft. 4th Round: Offensive Guard /// Any 5th Round: Outside Linebacker 6th Round: Cornerback 7th Round: Quarterback The Gist of It Basically, we are going to be busy this year. But if most of the things I've predicted goes correctly, I can't see how we can have a bad season. So far, I only see the Ravens going 6-10 again. But if it does go right, we can go back to 9-7 and no wildcard unless we get past Cincinnati.
Free Agency Update The Ravens are trying to resign backup RB Chester Taylor, Punter Dave Zastudil, and MLB Bart Scott. They are also trying to reach DE Anthony Weaver but are aware about how much money they are willing to spend on him. DT Ma'ake Kemoeatu says he wants to test free agency for "his value" and the possible place he may land is in the Cleveland Browns. For FA quarterbacks, we can eliminate Chris Simms because the Buccaneers are thinking about keeping him and Daunte Culpepper for injury issues. We can add Kerry Collins to the list because now Billick will have less control with the offense and he might be reunited with Jim Fassel.
I heard that if Chester Taylor hits the free agency market that Panthers are going to sign him fast. He is there #1 target for RB because the panthers dont have a lot of cap room.
Simms is off that list because whatever deal the Bucs made means a team will have to give them a 1st and 3rd round pick in exchange for him, not going to happen!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (panthersare#1)</div><div class='quotemain'>I heard that if Chester Taylor hits the free agency market that Panthers are going to sign him fast. Just kidding, I don't know either.
Free Agency Update The Ravens are still negociating with Chester Taylor's agent, Ken Sarnoff. It seems that teams are very interested in making him as their franchise back. Those teams include Carolina, Arizona, and others. Another Ravens running back, Jamal Lewis, is getting look at by teams as well (don't know if that is a proper sentence). New England might possibly look at Jamal after the aging Corey Dillon. NT Ma'ake Kemoeatu is still trying to get contacted and hope that they can sign him ASAP. As well as MLB Bart Scott and DE Anthony Weaver. They are hoping to sign either Bart Scott or Tommy Polley to take over the middle linebacker spot since Ray Lewis is holding out for the 2006 season. If Weaver is gone, they can replace him with Jarret Johnson, Dan Cody, or Rodrrick Green. TE Daniel Wilcox has signed a three-year contract extension and OT Tony Pashos is expected to reciever a first round tender. Another Raven TE, Darnell Dinkins, has been drawing some attension from other teams lately, he is going to be an unrestricted free agent March 3rd. GM Ozzie Newsome is unsure about looking at former Raven, Duane Starks, as their nickelback. OT Orlando Brown and OLB Peter Boulware has been released for salary cap reasons. Newsome hopes that both of them can find a team who needs them. Reports are that the Cowboys are expected to release DT La'Roi Glover sometime this week.
The Packers are expected to make overtures to LB Bart Scott. Read that yesterday in the Journal/Sentinel...
Free Agency Update Here's the list of QB's the Ravens are "Looking at" Listed from highest priority to lowest. 1. Kerry Collins, Oakland If he isn't resigned by the Raiders, he might have a chance to reunite with his former head coach Jim Fassel. 2. Jon Kitna, Cincinnati It seems that the Bengals might try to retain Kitna and will not look for him if they are in a bidding war. He is also rumored to go to Detroit. 3. Drew Brees, San Diego Most unlikely because other teams that have more cap space will look for him. The Ravens will try to avoid him because of his injury. Rumors report that he might land in Miami next year. Other Mentionables Brian Griese, Tampa Bay Gus Frerotte, Miami Patrick Ramsey, Washington Chris Weinke, Carolina DT Ma'ake Kemoeatu is still unreachable on a deal to resign him, if the Ravens are unable to sign him, they might look for another DT in free agency like Ted Washington or Sam Adams. They are still negotiating with RB Chester Taylor's agent, Ken Sarnoff and are still trying to reach a deal to sign him, he is an unrestricted free agent. Taylor is "seeking a contract similar to the one given last year to LaMont Jordan (five-year, $27.5 million deal with a $7 million signing bonus). "
Free Agency Update The Ravens have sent one year tenders to 7 of the 8 RFA's. DE Jarret Johnson OT Tony Pashos K Aaron Elling DT Aubrayo Franklin FB Ovie Mughelli RB Musa Smith QB Brian St. Pierre The 8th RFA was Daniel Wilcox who signed a three year extension a month ago.
Kerry Collins wasn't cut. They withdrew it back with the CBA getting done. Though there's still a chance they cut him if they can't work something out.
Ravens are gonna have to do something soon in free agency or they will get past by the Browns as the third best team in that division.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (panthersare#1)</div><div class='quotemain'>Ravens are gonna have to do something soon in free agency or they will get past by the Browns as the third best team in that division.</div> They signed Trevor Pyrce.
!!! Free Agency Update !!! GREAT! What was supposed to be an early Christmas made me really happy to be a Ravens fan. Here are the signings so far: Lost: DT Ma'ake Kemoeatu to Carolina RB Chester Taylor to Minnesota DE Anthony Weaver to Houston P Dave Zastudil to Cleveland Got: MLB Bart Scott from Baltimore DE Trevor Pryce from Denver RB Mike Anderson from Denver DT Justin Bannan from Buffalo The first thing I want to say to the Cleveland Browns is PAYBACK IS A BITCH! (Sorry VF, but I had to express my opinions, see Bill of Rights). The Browns really loved Kemoeatu but lost him to Carolina and then they signed Ted Washinton when the Ravens were looking at him. Later on, they signed Dave Zastudil who had a career season with the Ravens last year and sent a deal to Bart Scott. But Scott realized that he should play for the Ravens (Which is obvious...). We have Trevor Pryce from Denver to replaced DE Anthony Weaver who was signed by Houston. And since Chester Taylor is gone, Mike Anderson "A cap-age casulty" will possibly be the man, he does has a history with Jamal Lewis when he beat him for Rookie of the Year in 2000. The Ravens aren't really looking at a QB yet... But I hope they might get someone like Kerry Collins. We also signed Justin Bannan who might play nose tackle and will lickly team up with unexperienced Dwan Edwards or Aubrayo Franklin. And around the league, Arizona made a great move (for the Ravens) as they signed Edgerrin James and it leaves more to believe that the Ravens are getting closer to draft LenDale White from USC.
With the signing of Mike Anderson that makes it even more likely the Ravnes go DeAngelo Williams in my opinion.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (porky88)</div><div class='quotemain'>With the signing of Mike Anderson that makes it even more likely the Ravnes go DeAngelo Williams in my opinion.</div> Anderson was definately a system back, and will not be sucessful in baltimore
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (porky88)</div><div class='quotemain'>With the signing of Mike Anderson that makes it even more likely the Ravnes go DeAngelo Williams in my opinion.</div> With the Ravens resigning Jamal Lewis it is unlikely now they will draft a RB
NO!!! Why did they sign him? At least we can work on the defense now, maybe we can look at Jimmy Williams?
