I heard that Ray Allen could be on the trading block this offseason. The Sonics may put him on the block because he will have an expiring contract next season. But since the Warriors need some more scoring options, what do you all think about the Warriors making some offers for Allen? I'd try to trade something with a sign and trade with Dampier or Foyle along with Dunleavy to the Sonics for Ray Allen. Some questions i'd have would be that, I have heard great things about Ray. But to me it looks like he's never been much of a winner or i guess probably even a leader. I don't remember his teams doing anything exceptionally well. But it could be different here if the Warriors are able to put players like Speedy, JRich, Pietrus, Murphy, either Damp or Foyle(hopefully) and a first round draft pick around him. Also he will have an expiring contract in 2005 when the Warriors have all that cap space. So would it be worth the risk of doing this trade, since there is a possibility that he may leave? My perfect case scenario would be the Warriors trading Dunleavy and either Foyle or Dampier for Ray Allen. I don't have high hopes that this proposal could make this trade happen. So would it be more likely for this deal to happen if the Warriors added their draft pick? And is Ray Allen worth all this? I would enjoy a Claxton/JRich/Ray Allen/Murphy/Foyle or Dampier lineup a lot. Speedy would be able to penetrate and break down defenses. JRich is becoming a player who can almost score from anywhere on the court, if it's near the basket, mid range, or even from three point range. And Ray Allen adds a great scorer and a great outside threat. And i think Ray is something like a 23/4/5 type of player, but i probably should check the stats once again... What do you all think?
A trade involving Dunleavy to the Sonics won't work due to the simple fact that Rashard Lewis is etched in stone at SF in Seattle for many years...i do however think the Sonics would be very interested in a sign-and-trade for Dampier altho I don't see an Allen-for-Dampier straight up deal as even...The Warrirors would perhaps have to give up Pietrus for the trade to work, or maybe even trading an expiring contract and taking the burden of Jerome James (or Calvin Booth's) contract...
The only way Seattle deal Allen to the Warriors for that sort of a deal is if he states he's going to leave. Those rumours about Allen being on the trading block were denied by both Seattle management and Allen himself. I am confident Ray will sign an extension in the off-season (he still has the 2004/05 season under contract anyway). He is the cornerstone of this franchise, and will be here as l ong as he wants to be.
The Warriors with Ray Allen? While you never wanna miss an opportunity to grab a superstar, I think that making this deal would cause a lot of lineup problems. Shift Allen to the 3? Shift Jrich to the 3? What about Pietrus and Cheaney? Also, while having 2 scorers is great, JRich would have to defer to Allen in the clutch. This would definitely hurt his development as a star player and a go-to-guy.
I think next year Jrich is going to be almost identicle to Ray Allen, but a better dunker. That trade would not make sense. Now if you traded Jrich plus someone for Allen, that might work.
The pieces wouldn't fit if Ray Allen were on the Warriors unless there was a trade straight up for Richardson. I think what we need during the offseason is a good low post threat. We've had a point guard that can penetrate and two guys that can drill from downtown already. But who is good at really pounding the ball inside or using low post footwork for easy points? Probably no one and that's why the warriors can't score as well. All the shots come from the perimeter if there's no one like Speedy to penetrate and get to the basket or force double teams to get Damp open for dunks.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Warriorfansnc93:</div><div class="quote_post">Who Kenyon or Allen?</div> Kenyon, of course.
If we do try to get Kenyon at the 4, he would be kind of undersized against the likes of Duncan, KG, etc. Of course, New Jersey will probably sign him for as much as possible so that's a pipe dream. As for Allen, he's a great player, but getting older and a bit more injury prone.
I can't stand Ray Allen on defense. And most likely next year's team will be weaker if the trend continues to be to sign veterans to one year contracts. We just don't have any bargaining chips unless we do a sign and trade for other multi year contract players. It's horrible. And signing guys like Rusty Larue to 10 day contracts when the guy is obviously horrible at playing defense and taking care of the ball is just plain crazy. Next year I bet we re-sign A.J. for a minimum contract and get someone like Matt Barnes or Mengke Batuur as a training camp invitee.
