Ray gun so hot it makes enemies drop their weapons ? Technology is supposed to be harmless ? Officials say it could save the lives ? System uses millimeter waves to barely penetrate skin MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Georgia (AP) -- The military's new weapon is a ray gun that shoots a beam that makes people feel as if they will catch fire. The technology is supposed to be harmless -- a non-lethal way to get enemies to drop their weapons. Military officials say it could save the lives of civilians and service members in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. The weapon is not expected to go into production until at least 2010, but all branches of the military have expressed interest in it, officials said. During the first media demonstration of the weapon Wednesday, airmen fired beams from a large dish antenna mounted atop a Humvee at people pretending to be rioters and acting out other scenarios U.S. troops might encounter.</div> http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/01/24/ray.gun...=rss_topstories
Interesting, I read about it earlier and it said it puts like 139+ degrees of heat on your skin, not sure if its celsius or what not but they say your immediate reaction will be to get out of line of fire from the ray. The thing is, wouldn't it be easy to develop heat resistant armor or something?
I read about it earlier, thats pretty crazy... Its amazing how it does no damage, it just makes you feel uncomfortable. Also, they said that it goes through the thickest clothes.
Whoever decides to mass-produce a similar gun that warms people to room temperature will make millions.

i wonder if you could cook your dinner like that, or like warm up a pizza or something, that would be handy, or warming up your bath, burning ants, pissing people off in the street, imagine holding up a place like "gimme all your god damn money or i'll warm you"

Well it seems warming your food wouldn't work because this gun "barely penetrates skin" (I guess they could extend its range). But I'm wondering, if that ray gun was shot at someone's eyes it must be able to do damage, but I guess that is better than getting shot in the face with a real gun, or even a rubber bullet.
Yea, it says that it doesn't actually burn you, just makes you feel like you're burning. It's pretty interesting though, because technically somebody could be freezing to death and think that they're melting.
I dont understand how you can feel like its burning you, yet it doesnt burn you, especially at 139?c. I feel like I'm burning in 30?c.
I think its a burning sensation until you move out of the line of fire of the beam, so the point isn't to injure you, its to get you to move. I wonder what would happen if you got shot in the eye though? Probably blindness. That'd be a good self defense weapon for regular people to, someone runs up on you? Blind them. Thieves could use it to though.
