Reason: Young would have provided the Clippers with a legit scorer to back up Mobley. Thornton can score, but he is a SF and considering that Corey Maggette is guaranteed to start and Tim Thomas should see most of the backup minutes at SF,this positionwas not the most pressing need. The Clippers needed a shooter and a point guard, they received neither with this pick. Thornton has a ton of athleticism, but that seems to be the one thing Dunleavy cares the least about. I was not completely upset over the Thornton pick, but Nick Young was the guy I wanted and I feel would have been a better fit.

Reason: I dont think Jared Jordan was a bad pick, heck there really isnt a bad pick in the second round of any NBA draft. The Clippers needed a PG and they took one, so I am fine with that. I think Green is a better player overall, but Jordan is a better point guard. There is also a need for Kaman's backup and Aaron Gray would have been a decent pick here, but he isnt exactly the ideal backup for Kaman, considering they are rather similar. McGuire was the best player available on the board and I more than likely would have drafted him, but the Clipper filled a need and I dont have a problem with that.

He had a great year in Cleveland and would have filled a need at PG/SG as well as providing some shooting. Paul Davis was stuck playing behind Brand, Kaman, and Williams, and has never received much playing time to warrant himself as a good pick. I thought Paul Davis was a decent choice on draft day considering the options available. Gibson is the clear cut pick right now, but he also might not have developed as quickly in the Clippers system.

Although he is similar to James Singleton (who is now gone) he is a low risk high reward pick this late in the draft. Again, there is no wrong pick this late in the second round and I do like Diaz's game, I just hope he can stick to the roster this year and not land overseas.

Reason: This was one of the worst drafts in franchise history. Gerald Green was a consensus Top 10 pick and began his slide down the draft board. He was exciting, athletic, should shoot, and had a ton of potential at the SF/SG position which the Clippers needed. Even Danny Granger would have been a great pick, many wanted him to be the pick over Green and you cant go wrong with Granger. The fact is the Clippers took a guy at 12 they promised and could have had at pick 32. This pick really set the Clippers back, because if they pick Granger or Green they can move Maggette for a player or asset of nee later that season or the next. Korolev barely saw the floor after being picked and the Clippers declined his option. In fact he is such a good player he has yet to receive a contract offer from an NBA team and will likely return to Europe.

    #32 - Monta Ellis
Reason: Ewing was never a good PG in college and I had him graded as a marginal if that NBA player, yet the Clippers take him with the 2nd pick of the 2nd round. I am not sure what player they were scouting at Duke, but Daniel Ewing never had an NBA future. Could you imagine if the Clippers had selected Monta Ellis? Shaun Livingston who? There are plenty of good players selected in the 2nd round of this draft and any one of them would have made this pick look like a steal compared to Daniel Ewing. Monta Ellis is the easy pick here, but I wouldnt mind Blatche or Amir Johnson.

I'm doing these without looking at what the players became and just going off of my grading of the players.

In 05 - Granger and Ellis - The Clips weren't winning anything at that point so the addition of a mature Granger next to Brand would be good for the team both on and off the court. Because Livingston is a tall PG, the Clippers could have taken the chance on the 6'3" Ellis who is a better fit at SG than PG.

In 06 - Millsap and Adams - I liked Millsap a lot more than Davis and while not a big fan of Adams, you knew he'd be able to defend the 1-3 in the NBA.

In 07 - Belinelli and McGuire - Belinelli is easily my favorite player of that group. With Livingston's injury, you could pair him in the backcourt with Ellis and have them both handle the ball. McGuire is just too talented to pass up here although Green would be a near perfect back up PG.

Marco would have filled the shooter role the Clippers need, but I think Young is more consistent and versatile, something Dunleavy seems to like.

Where are we starting from? What was their depth chart like at the time of the 2005 Draft?

I'm too big of a Marco fan to be convinced of such a thing

That was going into the draft/offseason. They made the jaric trade for Cassell, signed N'Dong, Mobley, Singleton.
