The Sixers are 5-18, in cap hell, and need to dump a contract. Dalembert is one of those. We need a center. Anyone think there's a chance that we could get him?
Yes, he is. But he's healthy, durable, and big--all things we need. Perhaps we would be able to pry away Young too if we gave them a really sweet deal. I wonder...
It is a good thought, though. It's not a trade people are going to ooh and aah at, so it will get easily dismissed. But it's mroe likely than us landing a huge player to help us win now and in the future. Would we move Joel for him? Or a package of smaller parts? Miler?
If Portland moved Przybilla, how would it help, really? The problem Portland faces is being incredibly thin up front. Moving a big for a big just seems like shuffling deck chairs. I think Dalembert is a relatively equivalent player to Przybilla...lesser defense, more productive. I guess I could see dealing Przybilla for him as a hedge against Przybilla leaving in the off-season. Ideally, though, they could acquire him without losing Przybilla, use them as the center rotation this year and then let Przybilla leave in the off-season and let Dalembert back up Oden. But I don't know how Philadelphia can afford to move Dal without getting back a big. If they deal Dalembert without getting a center back, who starts for them up front? Brezec?
The problem is that his contract is so large--$11.36M. Blake/Outlaw/Webster would be enough, but we would lose our only SF. Now, if we could add Rudy in and get Young, then I think it could be a win-win for both sides. They need a PG almost as badly as we need a C, they would save a TON, and they could move Iggy back to the 3. Plus they would get pretty decent value in Rudy in exchange for Young, whom most think would have to be included in any cost-cutting deal. I dunno--it's a thought
Speights is set to come back any day, and Jason Smith could probably start at the 5 if they needed him to.
Dalembert is garbage for the salary he makes. I'm not opposed to making a move for a big man (if it's even possible) but this isn't it.
No, my ulterior motive is that I really want Thaddeus Young; this was just my way of easing into it. However, I don't see how any deal that nets us a center, a starting SF, and rids us of Blake without losing any of the big 3 would not be a colossal success.
I would take him but his contract is a little too much and a little too long. I think he is a decent player, contrary to most on this thread.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8co68n Blake and Outlaw and lotto-protected 2010 1st for Jeffries and Jordan "I'm glued to D'Antoni's bench" Hill gives the Knicks an additional ~10M in cap room next year (meaning that they could now sign 2 max guys), gives us some warm bodies up front, a raw lotto project, and more minutes for Bayless. Win, Win, Win, Win.
Makes you wonder if the Sixers would be interested in some salary relief. They're cap constrained and supposedly pretty open to moving Brand. Elton appears to be a shell of his former self, but I'd take him off their hands and use him in a sort of backup role at power forward and center if we could get a hold of Thad Young, who can play as a stretch four or as a small forward. Question is, what would they want that the Blazers could offer
It would have to include Joel and the two EC's just to get close in money. Then, whatever cheap talent they want.
