Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the signings of their 2009 first-round draft pick, safety Eric Fraser, and non-import kicker Warren Kean. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed. "The addition of Warren and Eric gives another real boost to our Canadian talent," said Hufnagel. "We needed a kicker and Warren has the ability to be a solid CFL kicker. We're excited about his signing and I know he's very excited about the opportunity to play for the Calgary Stampeders. "Eric was our first-round pick last year but he went back to school to finish his senior season. He made good progress and we feel he can come to camp with a real chance to help us on defence." Fraser was selected by Calgary in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft. He played four seasons at Central Michigan and appeared in 40 games. The six-foot-one, 214-pounder tallied 189 tackles, four interceptions - one of which he returned for a touchdown - one sack and one forced fumble. His most noteworthy game came as a sophomore when he recorded 10 stops and intercepted a pass in the Mid-American Conference championship game. Fraser was the recipient of Central Michigan's Academic Excellence award in 2009 and was academic all-MAC in 2008 and 2009. "I'm very excited to be a Stampeder and I'm looking forward to getting back to playing football," said Fraser. "I had an opportunity to see some spring ball at my university recently and I'm really getting that itch to get back on the field and compete." Kean was taken second overall by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 2007 CFL Draft. He joined the team that season and saw action in the regular-season finale, converting three of four field-goal chances and kicking for a total of 11 points. He also spent time with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2008. Prior to signing with Edmonton, Kean spent four seasons with the Concordia Stingers. He was a three-time conference all-star and an all-Canadian in 2005. He holds the CIS record for most made field goals in a single game with nine. As well, he is third in Quebec University Football League history with 53 career field goals. "I'm ecstatic to get back to football," said Kean. "I've done a lot of work to get to this point and I can't wait to get started. There are a lot of people that work their whole lives for this opportunity and to have the chance twice is quite remarkable."
