A probe in to Red Star Belgrade's activities has seen the club's general secretary Zoran Damjanovic arrested, Serbian television reported on Friday.

The investigation began after crowd trouble at last weekend's league game saw a policeman attacked with flares and seats being torn up and thrown.

Former Serbian Football Federation official Damjanovic joined Red Star earlier this year in order to help build up the club's financial state.

"Damjanovic has been apprehended in the Serbian Football Association (FSS) premises," state television (RTS) reported.

Following the incidents on Sunday when fans rioted, the Serbian interior ministry launched the investigation to look into practices at Red Star.

The policeman was seriously injured in the trouble and one fan arrested has been charged with attempted murder.

Red Star played Bolton Wanderers on Thursday in the UEFA Cup with no trouble and no arrests being made, despite the home team losing 1-0 and seeing their chances of qualification disappear.
