The Ottawa REDBLACKS of the Canadian Football Leaguesigned two import players today: defensive back Eddie Elder (Arizona State) and receiver Antoine Hicks (Texas Christian). Elder, a Sacramento native, transferred in 2010 from junior college to Arizona State where he excelled primarily as a safety. In two seasons, he started 20 of 25 games with the Sun Devils and, in 2011, made 66 tackles, gaining a reputation as a skilled playmaker. Elder (5-10, 185) attended camp with the Arizona Cardinals in 2012. He was added to the practice roster of the Montreal Alouettes in October 2012 and signed with the Alouettes in November of 2012 before being released in June of 2013. Hicks, from Arlington, Texas, attended the REDBLACKS' tryout camp at Texas Christian in October. He played four seasons at TCU, the most recent in 2011-12 when he made 33 receptions for 347 yards and one touchdown. He also scored three majors on six rushing attempts. Hicks (6-2, 212) was a veritable touchdown maker during the 2009-2010 campaign by reaching the end zone 10 times on 32 touches (six TDs on 23 receptions and four majors on nine rushing attempts) for the Horned Frogs.
