"It's a good feeling that we have a new coach and it's a done deal. Everybody can now focus on what we have to do to improve our organization and improve our team. Have you talked to Coach Van Gundy? "I talked to Coach Van Gundy on Friday night. He called me at my house. He's going to be in town tomorrow and I'm looking forward to sitting down with him and discussing different things. He seems like a guy that wants to communicate with his players and wants their input and I think that will be good for our team." How awkward was last week? "It's been awkward for the last month. When the whole evaluation process started at the beginning of May and then Coach (Brian) Hill being fired. Then not knowing who our coach was, thinking it was (Billy) Donovan and then realizing that it wasn't true. I'm just glad we got our guy and that this whole situation is over with. I think public relations wise it didn't help, but these things happen. People change their mind and you can't fault the guy for going where his heart is. I'm just glad we have Coach Van Gundy and from everything I've heard he's a great guy and a good coach." Do you think you'll have more of an opportunity to play in Coach Van Gundy's offense? "I think that's what the NBA is all about is opportunity. You're going to be on a team sometimes with 2-3 guys at your position. It comes down to who gets the opportunity to play and then making the most of that opportunity. What Coach Van Gundy told me and what he said in the media is that wants offense and wants shooting out on the floor. All I told him is that I just want an opportunity. If I do well and I earn a spot, then I earn a spot. But I just want a fair shake, and I think I'm going to get that." What are your plans for the rest of the summer? "I'm still unclear on the Vegas thing. I got the schedule in the mail the other day, but I'm just not sure that I'm going to go out there. Right now my focus is just getting better for summer league. Maybe I'll take a little time off after that and then get right back into it. I basically set aside eight weeks here in Orlando prior to summer league for me to train, then a week and a half for summer league. So that's nine and a half weeks of summer that I'm going full tilt." How are you feeling? "I'm 100 percent healthy. I feel great."</div> Source: OrlandoMagic.com <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The last time I posted a blog Billy Donovan was Orlando’s coach. Looks like things have changed. First of all, I wish Coach Donovan the best and understand he was torn on his decision. Florida’s lucky to get him back. Having said that, I’m excited and relieved that we have found our new coach in Stan Van Gundy. I don’t know Coach Van Gundy but I’ve heard nothing but good things about him. It’s been a busy week for me. For one, workouts are in full swing and there’s a little soreness in my body. James Augustine and I did a track workout on Wednesday morning and it was challenging. NBA shape is way different from Duke shape (all I did was run at Duke). But that’s why I’m putting in the work this summer- to be in “Duke shape.” Besides pilates, running, swimming, lifting, and basketball workouts, I also spoke at two of the Orlando Magic’s camps. On Tuesdsay, there were a little over one hundred kids in attendance. I talked to them about my experiences, answered some questions, and even gave a couple of them shooting tips. Wednesday was the same routine- just a different gym and a little bit smaller group of kids (about 60 or so). I absolutely love being involved in the Orlando community. Hopefully, I’ll have some pictures available to post from the camps. I’ll post a blog early next week. Thanks for stopping by…but mostly, stay classy.</div> Source: JJ Redick Blog
