After accomplishing their goal of picking up an additional pick by trading down from the second selection of the NFL draft’s second round, the Washington Redskins made a move to bolster their pass rush by selecting Stanford outside linebacker Trent Murphy. The Redskins used the 47th pick of the draft take Murphy, a 6-foot-5, 250-pounder from Mesa, Ariz. Murphy is described as a lean, powerful pass-rusher with good hands and a strong motor. During his four-year career at Stanford, Murphy tallied 32.5 sacks — 25 coming in the past two seasons, including 15 in 2013. It’s unclear how the Redskins envision fitting Murphy into their rotation. The team has Pro Bowl bookends Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan, who start on the right and left edges, respectively. However, Orakpo is playing on a one-year franchise-player deal, and Kerrigan will be a free agent following the 2015 season.
