Although Manchester United dominated the Group E clash with Celtic, replays showed that both of Dimitar Berbatov's goals should have been flagged offside.

Conversely, Wayne Rooney went on to score a perfectly good 'goal' that was dubiously flagged offside, before scoring the third for real.

Now, Belgian De Bleeckere has admitted that he and his assistants - Peter Hermans and Alex Verstraeten - had a poor game.

He told the Daily Express: “At the time we were not aware of any mistakes and there was no protest from any of the players. I left the field feeling very good with our performance, but when I watched the match back again I felt really bad.

“We have done well together in the European Championship and Champions League, but we have made mistakes in this game.

“We must try to help each other as much as we can and come back stronger.”

Bullish Verstraeten added: “I admit to the mistakes but I also ask for some understanding. Offside decisions are the hardest to call.

“However, Manchester United would have won the game without these decisions.”
