“We talk about being humble and hungry all the time and if I didn’t set that tone around here, then I’d be upset,” he said. “I love my job and I feel lucky to be one of 30 people who gets to run an NBA team. I don’t take that lightly. I owe it to a lot of people. And from where I’ve come, from the minor leagues, to get to where I am. I was a marginal NBA player, at best. And to build up an organization I’m proud of means a lot. But I know there’s a lot of work to do.”

I think if I was KP and I was being accused of being too big for the league and my team. I would try to stay away from the term "I".

I would replace that with "We".

Yes, that sounds much better! They really were just a marginal NBA player. ;)

I think if I was KP, and I was being accused of something as silly and meaningless as "being too big for the league and my team," I would ignore it, respond to questions honestly and keep doing my job.

um yeah, removing the I's in that actually has the reverse effect to what the OP suggested.

I didn't say every sentence now mins. The part of where he said "If I didn't set the tone around here..."

I think he should throw it back at them with something like this:

“They talk about being humble and hungry all the time and if they didn’t set that tone around there, then they’d be upset,” he said. “they love their jobs and they feel lucky to be 29 of 30 people who get to run an NBA team. They don’t take that lightly. They owe it to a lot of people. And from where they’ve come, from the minor leagues, to get to where they are. They were marginal NBA players, at best. And to build up organizations they're proud of means a lot. But they know there’s a lot of work to do.”

Why would he use "we" in that sentence? He's referring to his role.

It's like asking a basketball player, "What was running through your head when you hit that shot?" and his answer: "We all tried our best to win the game." That's...great? Useful answer.

Because he makes it sound like he is responsible for how humble every person in that franchise is. Everyone plays a part in that. Not just him.

All I'm sayin is if he wants to wash his hands of these accusations, he needs to be careful with what he says. If it doesn't matter to him. F it then.

Not really. I think it's just inherent bias on your part to assume things that don't exist in reality.

I think a lot of the GM's in the league are egocentric and arrogant. The difference is, a lot of them aren't always in the public eye. KP likes to talk to the press. I think that rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

What are you bitching about here? I don't get it. The tone and the culture of any business is set at the top. This thread is retarded.

I think not only should the "I"'s be replaced, but it should be replaced by something showing his love for America.

What the fuck are you talking about!? You think KP cares what some random writers are saying about him. Freeman asked him a question about his job and he answered it. Quit drinkin' HATORADE and support your team! And on a personal note, KP is one of the coolest and most down to earth guys you will ever meet.
