...and the hopes and dreams of playing in a natty gone. Now I know how Oklahoma felt when they got screwed in Eugene. Karma. It hurts.
The refs didn't cost Oregon that game. Standford dominated the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
I didnt leave that game thinking we were screwed at all. I left that game thinking "Geez, Stanford just absolutely kicked the crap out of us" all I can do is tip my cap to them. Football is won in the trenches, and Stanford did just that... on both sides.
Exactly right WHEELS! Stanford imposed their tempo and uglied us and we couldn't respond. This was a great wake up call for the Duck coaches and our lines must change for us to win a national championship. I liken us to the Dallas Mavericks who used to put up 126 points but get crushed by San Antonio in the playoffs when the defensive screws were put to them.
We should ask Wisconsin. That team got screwed! They should've had a game winning FG opportunity. Then their only loss would be on the road by one score to an undefeated Buckeye team. They'd have a great chance of going to a 4th straight BCS game.
I'm not saying Stanford didn't necessarily outplay us, but the hopelessly bad pass interference call gave Stanford a TD. Take it away, we win. The DAT fumble (should not have been overturned for 2 reasons) cost us 7 points. That led to Stanford's brilliant drive down to the field. All I am saying is that if those were properly handled, we win.
The PI on Ifo was lame. Both players were holding each other. That cost us 7 points for sure. That's the game right there. The DAT fumble was legit and should have been a fumble. He fucked up. I don't blame the refs for the loss. They didn't help, and I don't feel like they called the game fairly. They hurt our rhythm and they definitely made it hard to get a good flow going. With that said, we played like complete shit. We made a ton of mistakes and we didn't deserve to win.
And I don't disagree we didn't deserve the win, but the point is critical screw ups by the refs cost us the win. Whether outplayed or not, when a game of that magnitude is decided by the refs it makes me sick.
