Clearly Reggie does not work for ESPN.

Oh come, on, Griffin doesn't always cherrypick. He's a tremendous talent. but it's cool to see LA get some praise outside of POR.

BTW, Griffin lost tonight vs. TOR, but he still had this ridiculous play.

It's a known fact that highlights get you on the All-Star team.

I think this is exactly what Evans was talking about.

If Aldridge keeps up the tremendous pace he's been on and leads the Blazers to the playoffs, really which Forwards will definitely rank ahead of him come time for the All NBA teams? Durant & LaBron are near locks for the 1st team for the second year in a row, but I think he'll stand a pretty good shot at the 2nd or 3rd team

It would be laughable if he were 2nd or 3rd team and not an All-Star.

not really. If LA keeps up the dominating pace he's been on his 2010-11 stats will be moving up from where they're at now and the voters (sportwriters) will have had a longer period to judge the quality of his play against various players/teams. His hype/perceived value should grow especially if Portland grabs a 5th or 6th seed. Also this is not without precedence as I recall Deron Williams didn't make the AS team in 2007-8 yet was named 2nd team All NBA

If LA got more rebounds, though he would have had to done it all year not just since mid Dec, I think he would be more of auto selection for AS. Tonite he only got 4 rebounds. How can he get that few when he's also playing center at times?

Bogut was 3rd team NBA last year and wasn't an all star.

Because of the way Detroit played the pic and roll. He popped instead of rolled. Shooting wide open J's.

What does that have to do with rebounds on D or when someone else is shooting?

Yeah that's not why. Maybe he leaves the rebounds for others so he can get those run out fast break points.

Yes, that's one of the one's I remembered, too. Deron didn't make his first all-star team until 2 years later.

The other one I remembered, off the top of my head, is Rod Strickland. He was 2nd team all-NBA in 97-98, but never made an all-star team. There are plenty of other examples of guys (Derrick Coleman, Dennis Rodman, Robert Parrish, Antonio McDyess, Chris Webber, etc.) who made one of the all-NBA teams in years when they weren't all-stars.

I don't think it's really that uncommon. If a player plays in a small market, he gets overlooked by the fans, and the coaches only have so many reserves they can vote in. Also, the fans tend to vote for names they recognize, even if those players are well past their primes and no longer deserving - which means that someone who is deserving gets left off. Of course, if a player gets hot and has a great second half, he might make one of the all-NBA teams even though he wasn't an all-star.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
The All-Star selections and All-NBA selections have different purposes. The All-NBA teams are meant to assemble the best players. The All-Star teams are meant to assemble the players fans want to see, at least in the starters. Those are often not the same thing. That's why I've never been outraged over fan selections. Fan selections are never wrong, because they accurately select the players the voters want to watch. Only if you (IMO) mistakenly think that it's supposed to be the very best players can you ascribe right and wrong to the selections.

Therefore, while I'd expect All-NBA and All-Star teams to overlap a great deal, it's hardly shocking to contemplate an All-NBA selection not being an All-Star. And I have a lot more interest in the All-NBA selections.

Q: You don't want to motivate your opponent. Why would McMillan product Reggie Evans talk like this before a game with Blake Griffin?

A: Evans is expendable. Triano would love to exchange him for Griffin in a foul contest with a riled-up Griffin. He told Evans to say that. Evans doesn't necessarily believe a word of what he said.
