http://www.nationaljournal.com/colu...blican-diversity-fueled-by-tea-party-20121217 The gist of the story is that Tea Party backed Nikki Haley just appointed Tea Party backed Rep. Tim Scott to fill Jim DeMint's senate seat. Scott will become the first African-American senator from South Carolina. Haley is a woman of color herself, one of two Indian-American republican governors (Bobby Jindal being the other). Scott will be the only African-American in the coming senate. There are three Hispanic senators this term. Two are Republican, and both backed by the Tea Party. An interesting quote from the article: "As I’ve written, despite Obama’s historic election, Democrats boast relatively few statewide minority officeholders--even fewer than Republicans--despite their voting base being much more reliant on minority support. " Don't these facts fly in the face of all the criticism of the Tea Party with the claim they're racists? I find that almost as silly as the MSNBC crew claiming Susan Rice was torpedoed for Secy. of State because a) she's black, b) she's a woman. Condoleeza Rice. Hellooooo, you idiots.
I couldn't give a shit what color Tim Scott or Nikki Haley are. Was he the best person for the job? That's what matters. If you truly want to rid society of racism, stop playing identity politics.
It's smart of the Republican party to get minorities to the front of the line. White adult men are becoming the minority in this country very rapidly.
I don't care either, in the sense you write about. But there is a problem with the senate being 100% white people when the odds are there should be 12 black senators if you picked the senators from the population at random. So there's something beyond the "best person for the job" and being qualified at play here.
