Arjen Robben again demonstrated himself today as a skillful and talented winger at times against Tottenham, but some of his diving was disgusting. This debate has arisen before over the likes of Drogba, Ronaldo and often other foreign players. Everyone wants it removed from the game, but during the match the referee's can't do anything unless it is blindingly obvious. Players are becoming very clever at conning ref's, and I believe that the FA needs to be looking at these incidents after the matches and taking the necessary course of action. In my opinion, mild dives should be given a yellow in retrospect, but bad cases should be punished with a one-game ban. If players have to miss matches through their cheating, surely this punishment would stop them from going down easily altogether? I think that retrospective punishment should also be bought in for those who blatantly attempt to get others booked.
I also think a one game ban would definatley cut diving and cheating down a lot. Players wouldn't dive if they knew they would get punished for it other than a yellow card, but sometimes not even that is given unless it is blindingly obvious like you said. The FA has to take more action after the game to finally get diving stomped out of Football.
