He would like to reload through free agency and the draft, but this year's free-agency crop is Shawn Bradley-like thin. Trade options are out there but all come at a hefty price: KEVIN GARNETT: The Nets, like every other team in the league, will call GM Kevin McHale to see if the power forward is available. Minnesota ownership says it does not want to deal Garnett. But the Timberwolves are not a serious contender in the West and Garnett's patience has to be wearing thin. Even if Garnett were to become available, he would cost the Nets Carter or Jefferson with Krstic and possibly two No. 1 picks. Such a deal, according to team sources, is not a no-brainer for the Nets. KENYON MARTIN: Could the Nets somehow land Martin without giving up one of their Big Three in some sort of three-way deal? The odds are slim. Martin will make $11.8 million next season and the Nets have Kidd, Carter and Jefferson on the books for max money or close to it. The Nets, who are trying to spend wisely, also worry about Martin's surgically repaired knee. This one has Jason Kidd not being involved and instead two 1st Round picks + Kristic + Jefferson or Carter. I think this trade makes a lot more sense for both teams.
They didn't want to pay Kmart back then, but they want to pay him now that he's had two bad years and Kidd is two years older? Not to mention, when is RJ's contract up?

TIM THOMAS: Thomas wanted to join the Nets earlier this season but the Bulls redirected him to Phoenix as part of his buyout. The ex-Knick power forward has been a great fit in Phoenix and his price has risen with his playoff performance. This trade helps out both teams quite a bit i think. Minni gets younger and a solid center finally while nets can become contenders with kidd and garnett together
Nets should look at the near future, they can put themeselves in a position to go deep in next season's playoffs, if they do get KG, a ring would be very likely. I don't think it's wise to make moves for the future at this point, the Nets has to act now while they still have the tools. They should really push to get a 4 or a 5, even if they fail to acquire Garnett. KMart wasn't the answer then, and I don't think he is the answer now. KMart is not a post up player, he can't create shots for himself, he's a small forward in a 4's body. The Nets needs an inside presence, someone who can play with their backs to the basket. Garnett would be a great fit for them, and is an unselfish player which can benefit Jefferson. Nets also needs a player who can knock down 3's to open up the inside to give room for jefferson to operate. Kidd of course will lead them.
i say keep the core and build around them with some veteran and young players then the nets should be good. get a legitamit pf that can start because collins off the bench would be great just not starter material
I say get Drew Gooden. He is a great rebounder and a stud o ndefense. Nets don't need more offense, it's the defense that needs help.
